Day 4 of the 2026 Gamefish Nationals got off to a delayed start, with teams eventually launching after 07:00 and making the most of an extended session.

Quality fish reached the scales, with increased action across the fleet. While more opportunities came, the story remained a familiar one — fish lost to sharks, near misses, and several just shy of the required weight. Moments that could have changed the scoreboard in an instant.

A standout performance came from the U19 SADSAA team, whose excellent catches earned them the big points and had everyone talking.

The day drew to a close with a building storm in the south. With lightning flickering on the horizon and the wind and light rain setting in, teams gathered over a true KZN favourite — bunny chow and traditional fish curry — a perfect end to a hard day on the water.

With deteriorating weather and sea conditions, Day 5 fishing has been called off. Anglers now take a well-earned day to regroup, prepare for the journey home, and look ahead to tonight’s closing function where the final results will be revealed.

Day 3 of the 2026 Gamefish Nationals proved to be another demanding day on the water, with anglers needing to dig deep and pull out every trick in the book. 🎣

Despite the effort, many opportunities were lost — whether to sharks, tough conditions, or fish not making the required weight to count on the scoreboard.

Even so, the determination across the fleet remains clear as teams continue to push hard in pursuit of valuable points.

With challenging conditions forecast ahead, all eyes are on the next session where anglers will need to give it their all.

The day ended on a high note with great camaraderie, as anglers shared a well-earned meal together.

Day 1 of the 2026 Gamefish Nationals saw the fleet head out into Richards Bay waters with high expectations and great energy. 🎣

While weighable fish were not as abundant as many teams had hoped, spirits remained high with smiles all round and strong camaraderie on and off the water.

With valuable lessons learnt and strategies already being refined, anglers head into Day 2 focused and determined to get points on the scoreboard. 💪
