Ever wondered what it actually costs to make a dance costume? I broke it all down 👀

Materials came to R888, from the Shein skirt I sourced and reworked, to the lace applique and every rhinestone placed by hand.

Then there is the labour. 10 hours of cutting, sewing, applique and gemming. Honestly I had no idea what to charge myself for my time, but one thing I know for certain is that labour has to be factored into the true cost of a garment. A professional costumier would charge a lot more than I did, and rightfully so.

The total cost of this dress? Just under R2,900.
