🎣🎬 RAUFFFF IS HERE. AND IT'S GOING TO BE LOUD.

Yes, it's finally here. The Mission's inaugural Raw African Unfiltered Fly Fishing Film Festival (RAUFFFF - and yes, feel free to add a few more choice Fs) kicks off in August. With screenings in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Hilton, Paarl and Knysna, there's a good chance we're coming to a screen near you. 🎟️ Link in bio.

Think gritty. Think sweaty. Think wild. Think everything you love about this continent's waters distilled into one glorious celebration of African destinations, species and the mad characters who chase them. The lineup will primarily feature films from or by African filmmakers focused on African fisheries, species and voices - but as is The Mission's signature style, we'll throw in a few global curve balls (cough… ) too.

Africa's fly fishing stories - raw, funny, and beautiful. On the big screen. Finally.

🏆 THE PRIZES

As incredible as the films are - and they are - we couldn't resist a few jaw-droppers in the prize department too. Across the seven screenings, we'll be giving away:

🐟 One week at Alphonse Island - . All-inclusive. One person. Value: R250,000. Yes, you read that right.

🐊 4-night stay for 2 at - Zambezi Queen Collection. Tigerfish, Big 5 sightings, insane bird life, sundowners. Value: R60,000.

🎣 2 guided days on the Garden Route - . Saltwater fly fishing for grunter, kob and leervis with one of the best. Value: R10,000.

And...reserved for the filmakers behind the best film as voted for by you - 🏔️ 5-night trip for 2 to Makhangoa Community Camp, Bokong River, Lesotho - . Wild yellowfish and rainbow and brown trout in the highlands of The Mountain Kingdom. Value: R60,000.

Plus a whole lot more prizes still to be announced.

But honestly...come for the films. The prizes are just the cherry on top.

🔗 Grab your tickets at the link in bio before they're gone.

Since last year, an agreement with Dullstroom on the Dam (DotD) is in place through which the club sponsors a trout stocking event at the Dullstroom Municipal Main Dam, coordinated by DotD, for the purpose of boosting the dam’s trout population. Great benefits such as reduced fee for accommodation and permits credited are some of the added values for members. Looking forward to 2026. Join the club and experience Serious Fun. .

5 May at the club house "A Nationals - The View from the Top". Kristene Page will share experiences of being a comp angler, breaking through that threshold into the A Nats arena and specific feedback on past A Nats Comp - conditions, waters fished (river, still - bank and boat) techniques and flies that worked. Lets make this event a wonderful 2 way interaction and Q&A session. Learn from the comp environment, open the mind to improve own experiences. See all soon.

Members will be tying the mole crab pattern for various salt water species on 21 April. Looking forward.

Trouble brewing. Deadline 13 April 2026

https://dearsouthafrica.co.za/dws-water-regulations/
Under the National Water Act, South Africans have long enjoyed the right to use state dams for recreational purposes, such as boating, fishing, and swimming. These rights are protected as “existing lawful water uses” under the law. However, the proposed regulations aim to restrict public access to state dams, criminalise traditional recreational activities, and impose burdensome lease agreements for both recreational and commercial use.

The draft regulations and accompanying Resource Management Plans (RMPs) would require individuals, clubs, and businesses to obtain formal agreements to access water surfaces and adjacent land. This would effectively block direct access from private properties and impose administrative burdens on landowners, turning them into compliance officers for the state. Additionally, longstanding businesses such as sailing clubs, marinas, guesthouses, and tour operators would face uncertainty, increased costs, and short-term lease agreements, which discourage investment and threaten their survival.

The DA will oppose these regulations, which are both unconstitutional and economically harmful. By prioritising state revenue over public access and local economic development, the ANC government risks destroying jobs and livelihoods in communities that depend on dam-based tourism and recreation.

We encourage all South Africans to join us in opposing these detrimental regulations. Send your objections before 13 April 2026 to:

A significant policy shift that jeopardises public access to state dams, undermines private property rights, and threatens local economies that depend on recreational and commercial activities around these water sources.
