OUADDOU HAPPY WITH A CLEAN SHEET

“It’s important to have a well-oiled machine. You need to have strategic leaders in every line.”

“Because sometimes when you play in front of 60,000 people, the players cannot hear you. Of course, we work during the week on the principle that we want to see on the pitch.”

“And sometimes you have to be hard, you know, not have to be a nice boy, you know, to wake up people who are sleeping. Sometimes you need to shout. You need to wake them up.”

“For me, I am a coach who loves goals and hates conceding them. I hate that as an ex-defender,” he said.

“So, today it was a good result. We scored one goal. We came back with a clean sheet, so I’m very happy.”

'Fantastic Welcome By Botswana' - Orlando Pirates Coach, But 'I've Experienced The Worst'

Abdeslam Ouaddou praised the warm reception in Botswana after Orlando Pirates secured a 1-0 victory over Namibia’s African Stars in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie at the Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone.

“To be honest, we have been well received — good hotel, good food, the pitch was okay, fantastic welcome from the Botswana people,” the Pirates coach said.

The Frenchman then took a subtle swipe at last season’s early exit to DR Congo’s FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo, adding, “I have experienced the worst. (laughs). I don’t want to mention the country.”

Ouaddou noted that the scorching conditions required adjustment from his side. “We had to adapt to the weather. I think the boys adapted very well,” he concluded.

The narrow away win gives the Betway Premiership champions a slender advantage ahead of the return leg at Orlando Amstel Arena, as they seek to progress further than they managed against Lupopo a year ago.

Ouaddou Makes Bold Pirates Claim After African Stars Win

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes his side have put themselves in a strong position to reach the CAF Champions League group stages after securing a 1-0 away win over African Stars in the first leg of their second preliminary round qualifier on Saturday.

The Buccaneers travelled to Botswana for the first leg against the Namibian champions and delivered a solid defensive performance while managing to secure the crucial away goal.

“My boys did well, we started how we wanted, no surprises about the opponent, we had good information from my analysis department, well done to them, the first half we adapted well to the conditions, the heat, the pitch as well,” he said.

The Pirates coach felt his side could have put the tie beyond their opponents earlier, but was equally encouraged by their defensive solidity, having secured another clean sheet.

“We definitely could have scored two goals early – but I have to give credit to the team block, defensively we were strong again, another clean sheet. We went without conceding a goal, which was the target, make tactical adjustments to get the away goal,” he added.

“We did it, the boys showed ambition to score this away goal, we could have scored more goals, but let’s be happy, I think we succeeded the first half, we still have the second half in South Africa – I can say we have one foot in the group stage,” he continued.

“We have an important second half, we have to prepare for this in order to get into the group stage, it’s important target for the club, the technical team, the players, we will make sure we rest and start this game, to win it.”

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou eyes CAF Champions League improvement -

'We learned our lesson from last season'

The Sea Robbers' head coach has made it clear that failure is not an option as the Buccaneers prepare for their crucial continental qualifying campaign. The Moroccan tactician is determined to lead the Soweto giants back to the group stages of Africa’s elite club competition following a painful exit last term.

"It will be important to come back with a positive result," Ouaddou said, as quoted by IOL.

"It’s a big year, so we need to get back into the group stage. Last season, we were knocked out by St. Eloi Lupopo, so this is a major target. We learned our lesson from last season. It’s crucial to return home with a solid result to position ourselves well for the next round."

"It’s challenging because their league hasn't started, but we've managed to obtain video footage," he explained when discussing the tactical preparation for the upcoming clash.

"We’ve begun analysing them and have good information, which we’ll study further on Thursday and Friday.

15-year-old star ready to upset Pirates?

A 15-year-old African Stars youngster is preparing for a memorable moment in his young career as the Namibian champions gear up for their CAF Champions League showdown against Orlando Pirates.

Micah Davids is part of the African Stars squad travelling for their second preliminary-round encounter, with the teenager expressing his excitement at the opportunity.

Speaking to the club's media team, Davids revealed what it meant to learn that he would be travelling with the senior squad for the first time to face the Soweto giants.

"When I found out I was travelling with the team for the first time, I was very grateful for the opportunity to be able to travel with the team," Davids said.

"It's obviously a very big achievement for myself and for my family as well, to be able to play in the Champions League.

"It's not something that every kid is able to do. I'm just very grateful and very ecstatic and excited.

"We're doing our best to ensure that we can win against Orlando Pirates and make it through to the group stage," he added.

Lungu Beats Mbuthuma To An Award

Ghamphani Lungu’s dramatic winner against Durban City has been voted the Suzuki Goal of the Month for August and September.

The Zambian international’s stunning volley in the final minute of extra time settled a tight MTN8 quarter-final 2-1 at a packed Orlando Amstel Arena, sending Pirates into the semis.

The strike claimed 40% of the public vote, well clear of Yanela Mbuthuma’s chip against Kruger United on 22%.

The award caps a strong start for the new Buccaneer, who was also named the club’s first Player of the Month of the season.
