I graduated (BPhysT) from the University of Pretoria in 2005 and completed my community service year at the Rustenburg Provincial hospital. My career in private practice started at Platinum Health, a closed medical aid scheme for Anglo American and Anglo Platinum Limited. Since then I have worked in private practices in Rustenburg and Polokwane where I gained extensive experience in treating sport
s and orthopedic injuries. During my time in private practice I learnt that it is in the patient’s best interest to be exposed to a multidisciplinary team in order to achieve the best results. At school I competed in athletics and hockey on a provincial level. After school I pursued hockey and played at national level. Always looking for a new challenge I started to compete in endurance events and finished the Comrades Marathon twice. I also did the Ironman 70.3 as well as the full Ironman. In 2012 I was introduced to the sport of Crossfit and I've been fortunate enough to participate at the African Regionals as an athlete. During 2013 I also completed my Crossfit level 1 trainer course. I have a true passion for people and for my work and I am grateful that I can combine the two. I follow a holistic approach in treating every patient. I do not like to rush treatment sessions and I focus on finding the root of the problem rather than only treating symptoms. I believe with this approach one can prevent the reoccurrence of injuries. In 2014 after being in a motor car accident I sustained serious injuries to my right shoulder and arm. I had to undergo extensive reconstruction surgery and rehabilitation. I was unable to work for 8 months due to my injuries. This experience of being on the other side as a patient, taught me a lot about the body and how it recovers after trauma. I learnt that even with the best team of doctors and professionals treating you, you have to take responsibility for your part in the healing process. Your body has the ability to communicate what it needs, and by listening and handling it with the necessary respect and patience you can and will recover. I believe that it is only through the grace of God that I am able to pursue my career as a physiotherapist with a rejuvenated passion and I am looking forward to this new adventure.
