true, be the example

Some people learn best by example, so when a coach joins a drill or is the example of a new skill, they learn much more quickly.

One of the most unique aspects of our Christian faith is that Jesus Christ came to earth and provided an example of how to live. In John 15, Jesus tells us how to love others. He tells us to follow His example, and we will have joy. One clear example of how Jesus tells us we will receive joy is by obeying His commandments. His words are not empty here, as He is the perfect example of following the commands of His Father.

It’s good that we have a book to tell us how Jesus lived so that we can know how to handle situations in our lives. Like many others, I had the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?) bracelet when I was young. It was a constant reminder that we are called to live as much like Jesus as possible. We are called to love the ones He loved, to follow the commandments that God set forth for us, and to desire a personal relationship with God just like Jesus showed us. This personal connection with God, the same connection that Jesus had, is a source of comfort and strength. In Scripture, Jesus teaches us how to pray (Matthew 6:5), how not to judge (John 8:1-11), and even to seek quiet time with God (Mark 1:35).

All these are just a few examples of how Scripture is our ultimate guide to learning to be more like Christ. Scripture is always there to guide us. As our Scripture verse says, we should follow the commandments laid out before us because following them will bring us true joy.

So true, forgiveness is a big, emotional, but once done it is like a mountain being lifted from your shoulders...

We are told to forgive those who hurt us, but have you ever considered why we are told this? You may have grown up thinking it’s just another rule we should follow as Christians. You might have thought that forgiveness could lead to mending that relationship or that even forgiveness is for your benefit so that you can move forward in your life.

While all of these are somewhat true, the real reason is given to us in 2 Corinthians 2:11. If we do not forgive others, we let Satan use this unforgiveness to attack us.

For example, a coach inherited a team that was full of behavioral issues. He quickly made many players angry because he changed the rules. A few players felt wronged and betrayed because their playing time was getting cut due to their behavior. They had a choice: would they continue to let the anger build toward their coach for these new rules, or would they forgive him and see the good that would come from the changes? The few who did except the changes started to thrive. Those who continued to harbor hate in their hearts quickly found that things kept getting worse for them, not just in their sport but their whole life.

Satan will use any stronghold you have to ruin it completely. Hatred and unforgiveness are easy ways for Satan to get his claws into your life and wreak havoc in every area. Whether you have been wronged or carry anger toward someone, the reason to forgive is so Satan cannot use it against you.
