NOVA-Wings SA NOVA Paragliders are now available to every pilot in South Africa. Our aim is simple;
1. Be ruthlessly honest about availability and delivery times

Supply good gliders that we believe in, and have experience with, to our fellow pilots.
2. Concentrate on the majority of pilots, in other words the En B and En C class.
4. Know the gliders that we sell, i.e. fly these very gliders ourselves all the time so that we can answer questions about them as truthfully as possible

Before one buys a new glider, you must answer the following questions to y

ourself;
1. Where are you going with your paragliding? Are you an xc (or hoping to do more xc) pilot, or are you content to fly around take-off? Do you want to participate in competitions, and if so, in which class would you be comfortable? Are you an older pilot who wants a wing that behaves well over the next few years, or are you a young gun who wants to push yourself? And many more questions like this.
2. What is your all-up weight? Which glider suits your weight best? If the glider doesn’t suit your weight, can you manipulate it enough – a heavier or lighter harness, ballast, lighter reserve, etc?
3. What are you prepared to spend? Do you buy new or used?
4. Resale value? En B and En C gliders are much more likely to re-sell than En D gliders
5. Ease of use. Packing instructions and durability. Sheathed or unsheathed lines. The last thing that one wants is a glider that needs elaborate packing when you land in shrubs/thorns or tight sports. We love talking to pilots and discussing gliders. We also encourage pilots to research as many other gliders as possible. Why buy a Nova glider?

At 2.1kg the DOUBLESKIN is a pleasure for Hike and Fly, at a take off weight between 55 an 75kg is classified EN A, and features a high degree of passive safety (Flat Aspect Ratio: 4.4) but due to its agility, excellent performance and enjoyable thermaling characteristics, it is always ready to turn a top to bottom flight into an XC round trip. Pilots who enjoy the odd wing-over will enjoy the short and precise brake travel in combination with the benign reactions of the DOUBLESKIN. Pilots who enjoy an even more dynamic handling will benefit from the extended weight range of the size 17 wing – with a take off weight between 75 and 90 kg the wing is certified as EN/LTF B.

MENTOR 7: What is a Hybrid 2.5-Liner?

A Hybrid 2.5-liner like the MENTOR 7 no longer has a complete C-level, but is a 2-liner design in the outer wing area. There is no longer a C-3 line. Therefore, the suspension points of the A- and B-level move backwards on the outer wing. Additionally, the distance between A-lines and B-lines increases.

Advantages of the Hybrid 2.5-liner concept:
– You have more possibilities to optimise the wing twist in accelerated flight (i.e. the angle of attack over the entire span). With the 3-liner you have to compromise more, which can potentially reduce performance and stability.
– The Hybrid 2.5-liner setup of the MENTOR 7 contributes to efficient pitch control when flying on bar. Some team pilots at NOVA who had the chance to fly the MENTOR 7 say that it is just as easy to control via the rear risers as the XENON. And it is a real two-liner!
– It reduces the line drag (but this was NOT the main reason for developing the Hybrid 2.5-liner).



MENTOR 7: Was ist ein Hybrid 2.5-Leiner?

Ein Hybrid 2,5-Leiner wie der MENTOR 7 hat keine komplette C-Ebene mehr, sondern ist im Außenflügelbereich ein 2-Leiner. Es gibt keine C-3 Leine mehr. Die Aufhängungspunkte der A- und B-Ebene rücken daher am Außenflügel nach hinten. Der Abstand zwischen A und B wird dort größer.

Vorteile des Hybrid 2,5-Leiners:
– Man hat mehr Möglichkeiten, die Schränkung (also den Anstellwinkelverlauf über die gesamte Spannweite) über den Beschleuniger zu optimieren. Beim 3-Leiner muss man hier mehr Kompromisse eingehen, die potentiell leistungs- und stabilitätsmindernd sein können.
– Das Hybrid-2,5 Liner Setup des MENTOR 7 trägt zur effizienten Pitch-Kontrolle im beschleunigten Flug bei. Einige Team-Piloten bei NOVA, die den MENTOR 7 schon fliegen konnten, meinen, dass er ebenso gut über den hinteren Tragegurt zu kontrollieren ist wie XENON. Und der ist ein echter Zweileiner!
– Es spart natürlich Leinenmeter bzw. Leinenwiderstand (aber dies ist NICHT der Hauptgrund für die Entwicklung des Hybrid 2,5-Leiners).
