Game Day 5 of the All Star baseball Challenge lived up to the hype and excitement, as different sports personalities lined the VIP section behind home plate, to watch the youngsters compete for 3rd vs 4th and 1st vs 2nd For the Green Machines, as coach David Thorne called them, his son Levi was a standout performer, and possible captain for the under10 MB Team heading to Cape Town, next year in April, followed closely by Logan Geldenhuys who played second base and played superbly in the game. Jason Moore at 3rd base also stood out for the Green Machines. Final Score – Green Team 10 – 4 Blue Knights Ozzie Ncokazi, Mason Viljoen and Hudson Gilson, tried hard to keep the Green Machine batters at bay, however they were just to strong for the Blue Team. Coach Mike van Deventer said he is looking forward to taking these baseballers to the nationals next year as there is a lot of up and comers… And for the Finals, the Yellow All Stars was in brilliant form with both their fielding and batting and stand out performers were Cairo Fraser, at short stop and Jodian Fortain, at pitcher…. Followed by Troy Gouws, who stood out at second base as well …. End Result – Yellow Team 15 – 7 Red Team … The standout performers for the Red Sox Reds was captain Alek Ge**er, who batted superbly and played magnificent at 1st base, followed on by Chad Robson, who has improved tremendously, especially in the batting department. New kids on the block, Eli Halgreen and Cayden Nel also improved a lot as the games went on …. Terrence Gouws said after the game, baseball was the winner, as the kids just want to play ball now more and more, and its amazing what friendships and bonds were created at the conclusion of the All Star Baseball Challenge. Mike Moore, E.P baseball legend said he supported the way we going ahead to get baseball back where it was by starting at grass root level and this bodes well for baseball in the Province…. Well done, to all involved ….
