Tribute Tuesday | Grey High Hockey Sponsor

Great hockey is built through the commitment of many people, and today we recognise Greyvensteins Incorporated for the important role they play in supporting Grey High Hockey.

Their generous sponsorship of our First Hockey team and Hockey Programme is a reflection of their belief in our boys and in the opportunities that hockey provides. Support like this allows our players to pursue their ambitions, represent The Grey with pride and continue to raise the standard of our programme.

To Greyvensteins Incorporated, thank you for investing in our boys, believing in Grey Hockey and being part of the journey. Your support has made a real difference, and we are proud to have you alongside us.

Boda vs DayPot the much-loved Grey tradition, and this year’s clash got underway with hockey.

The Day boys claimed the first bragging rights of the day with a 4-3 victory over the Boda boys. Well done to the Day boys on the win!

More than the result, it was a fantastic way to celebrate friendship, fun and brotherhood, while giving many of our Grey High matric hockey boys a memorable final game together.

A big thank you to our Sight & Sound photographers, Logan Scott, Amyoli Kom, and Lulibo Mbetshu, for capturing these moments so brilliantly.

Congratulations to Dale Jennings on his selection to the South African U18A Boys Hockey team and his opportunity to represent his country at the recent U21 Inter-Provincial Tournament in Gqeberha.

Dale’s selection is a fantastic achievement and recognition of his commitment, hard work and continued development. Competing against older opposition at U21 level provided valuable experience and another opportunity to test himself against some of the country’s best young players.

We are incredibly proud of Dale and this achievement. Congratulations to Dale, his family and coaches on this well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations also to our Head of Hockey and Director of Sport, Andrew Beynon, who was part of the South African U18A coaching staff.

Grey High hockey continues to make its mark on the national stage, with three Grey players earning South African Schools selections this year.

Keegan Le Roux travelled to Kenya to represent South Africa at the Hockey5s tournament. A different challenge to the traditional full-field game, Hockey5s proved to be a great fit for Keegan’s pace, strength and eye for goal. After opening the tournament with a defeat, the South African side rallied impressively to claim silver and secure qualification for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s U18 World Cup, taking place in Cairo in December.

In Zimbabwe, James Chree and Dante Elkington represented the SA U17A side. Both boys are key members of the EP U18A team and Grey High 1st XI, and played an important role in an impressive tournament campaign. After beating the SA U16A side 3-2, they went on to defeat Namibia U18A 5-1 and Zimbabwe U18A 2-1. A rematch with the SA U16A side awaited in the final, where the U17A team showed how much they had grown throughout the tournament, running out 5-3 winners to claim the title.

Michael Gillies also represented South Africa in Zimbabwe, earning selection for the SA U16B side. Following an impressive debut season with the Grey High 1st XI and finishing as EP U16A’s leading goalscorer at the recent IPT, Michael continued his excellent form at international level. The SA U16B side recorded convincing wins over Zimbabwe U16B, Namibia U16A and Zimbabwe U16A before completing an unbeaten tournament with a 3-0 victory over Namibia U16A in the final.

Three players, three national selections and some outstanding performances. A proud year for Grey High hockey and another reflection of the talent developing within The Grey.

A glimpse of what is to come.

The U14A have given us plenty of reason to be excited about the future of Grey Hockey. Their 6-1 win over Selborne College was another impressive performance from a group that has shown real growth and promise throughout the season.

There is plenty of talent in this side, and with continued hard work and development, this is a group that could have a very successful journey ahead.

Thank you to Sight & Sound Photographer Ghusain Agherdien for capturing the action from the game.

A winning finish for the 2nd XI

The Grey 2nd XI closed out their hockey season with a well-earned 2-1 victory over Selborne College.

A fitting way to finish the season, with the boys showing plenty of determination and composure in their final game of the year.

A special thank you to our Grade 12 Hockey players for everything you have given to Grey Hockey. Your commitment and contribution to the team will be missed.

Thank you to Sight & Sound Photographers Liam Dutoit, Logan Scott and David Mans for capturing the action, and to our Sight & Sound Videographers for bringing the game to supporters through the live stream on the SuperSport Schools App.

Grey Hockey finishes the season on a high

The 2026 hockey season came full circle as Grey faced Selborne College in the final fixture of the season, the same opponent we started the campaign against.

With a number of players away on National duty in Zimbabwe and others involved in the U21 IPT, there was some uncertainty surrounding the final fixture. However, the depth developed within Grey Hockey over the past three years gave the coaching staff confidence in the squad.

The 1st XI finished with a 2-1 victory, with goals from Keegan Le Roux and captain Logan Goddard-Ford securing the win.

The final results were:

14D lost to Selborne 14C 3-2
14C won 2-0
14B won 4-0
14A won 6-1

16E won 4-1
16D drew 0-0
16C won 2-0
16B won 1-0
16A drew 1-1

6th beat Muir 16A 4-0
5th beat Muir 1st 5-1
4th won 8-1
3rd won 3-0
2nd won 2-1
1st won 2-1

The season has produced eight National representatives and more than 40 provincial representatives, with the possibility of three Grey teams finishing in the national Top 10 rankings. It has been a season of growth, commitment and achievement across the programme.

Thank you to every player, coach and member of the support team who contributed to Grey Hockey this season.

A special thank you to our Matric Hockey players for everything you have given to the school and to Grey Hockey. You will be missed.

Thank you also to our Grey Cheerleaders for bringing so much joy and energy to our 1st XI games, and to Sight & Sound photographers Mikah van Niekerk, Logan Scott and Kody Klaas for capturing the moments throughout the season.

What a fitting way to close the book on the 2026 hockey season.
