DASO Nelson Mandela University

DASO Nelson Mandela University DASO is the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation.

DASO is an ancillary organisation of the Democratic Alliance (DA) based on a tertiary campus, and therefore in itself subscribes to the vision, mission, and strategies of the DA however with its own unique focus. We, the students of the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation, rooted in the values of constitutional liberal democracy, believe that education is the cornerstone of the liberation of

all South African students and the catalyst for the full realisation of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution (1996). We further believe that intellectual independence and open debate are vital to the preservation of a healthy democracy. We advocate the enrichment of the whole individual – intellectual, personal, cultural and physical – at institutions of tertiary education, through the development of academic, social, cultural and sporting facilities. We therefore commit ourselves to the protection and promotion of an open and free educational environment based on academic freedom, equality of opportunity and respect for individual worth.

RE: DASO Pillow Talk

Dear DASO Members and Sympathisers,

Spring is here. 🌿

And after a long winter, we deserve a moment to breathe, come together, laugh, and simply enjoy being Madibaz.

Last week at R Lounge, we showed what happens when we come together — the energy was unmatched, the memories were made, and the spirit of togetherness was alive.

Today, we do it again. ✊🏾

Kings Accommodation is calling. We are inviting our female students as we close the Women’s month to gather, bring the good energy, and welcome the new season the right way — with good company and good vibes.🧀🍷

And please, DON’T FORGET YOUR PILLOW AND FLEECE😭😂 We’re welcoming spring, but we’re not pretending Port Elizabeth suddenly has warm weather.

Come as you are. Bring a friend. Bring your energy.

We celebrate together. We build together. We belong together.

Last week we made magic. Today, let’s make more.

See you there. 🥂🌿

Yours in Leadership,
DASO NMU

RE: Initiatives DASO Held On Campus and at a High School

Dear Madibaz,

DASO leadership is proud to report on a series of successful initiatives undertaken, these activities reflect our continued commitment to supporting students, recognising women, and strengthening engagement with surrounding communities.

In recognition of Women’s Month, DASO males distributed tokens of appreciation to women on campus. These gestures of gratitude acknowledged the vital contributions, resilience, and leadership of women within our university.

DASO also facilitated the distribution of study packs to students, these packs were provided to assist with academic needs and to demonstrate practical support for students as they navigate their studies.

The DASO-led SRC outreach programme was also successfully held at Uitenhage High School and Gamble Street Secondary School. The sessions provided learners with valuable information about university opportunities, faculties, admission requirements, and student life at Nelson Mandela University.

The engagement created meaningful interaction between student leaders and learners, encouraging them to pursue higher education and make informed decisions about their future. The events were well received and marked a successful step towards strengthening NMU’s engagement with schools in the surrounding communities.
