One Golf Old Grey Cricket Club β Strong Start to the Season!
The boys kicked off their season in style at the first T20 Community Cup match of the year, played at Nelson Mandela University against Galvandale Cricket Club.
Old Grey won the toss and captain Elnatan Meiri sent openers Jean Du Plessis and Ashley Ostling in to bat. After a lively start, wickets fell quickly, including Meiri himself. Excitement filled the ground when Proteas batsman Tristan Stubbs walked in, but his stay was cut short by a reverse sweep that had the Old Grey supporters both stunned and cheering him on from the sidelines.
Thankfully, Sadique steadied the innings alongside Du Plessis, who anchored with a superb 70 runs. Contributions from Sheldon Pillay and Bjorn Ruppelt in the closing overs pushed Old Grey to a strong total of 166 in 20 overs.
Captain Meiri handed the new ball to Bjorn Ruppelt, who struck early with the help of a sharp catch from Stubbs in the slips. Stubbs then showed his class in the field with a brilliant runout off his own bowling.
Nathaniel Howard made a huge impact with a key wicket, while Sadiqueβs mystery spin and Joel Mareeβs breakthrough kept the pressure on. With Galvendale pushing hard, it came down to the final over. Nathaniel held his nerve brilliantly, sealing a 3-run victory for Old Grey!
It was the perfect way to open the season β a great performance on the field, massive support from the Old Grey community off it, and a reminder of how far the club has come.
This success wouldnβt be possible without the incredible backing from our supporters and sponsors β thank you! π
Weβre just getting started. Catch the boys in action again this weekend β details to follow!
