John Sampson, The Original Floating Darter.
We are all saddened to have learned this week of the passing of our friend and team mate, John Sampson.
At times, its easy to take for granted those around you. Especially those who you see so often. John was ever present. The Club was his home away from home. Be it Tuesday trainings or corporate league on the weekend, he never failed to show up for the game and for the people he loved. Cricket was God’s gift to John. And Johns friendship was a gift to us.
We will forever be missing his quiet “hello’s” and “How’re you doings?”. We will miss making small talk with him in the nets, waiting to bowl. Or listening to his schemes about how to get a prems player out with bowling a perfect variation. We will especially miss the sight of Glenn consistently being in John’s pocket, along with the countless names John took around with him.
John is the true representation of why we play. Cricket is humble, kind, and above all, about friendship. Heatherbank will miss John the player, we will mourn John our friend.
