MULTIPLE CHOICES | A bump for your IPS score? You bet!

The Individual Multiplier format is always a winner when we roll it out for our monthly Order of Merit competition and last Wednesday’s contest was no different.

Players basically get to multiply their IPS score by the number allocated to specific holes.

In this instance, holes 1-6 offered a multiplier of one, 7-12 two and 13-18 a whopping triple boost.

A big thank you to the visitors and members who supported the event. It was great fun!

RESULTS

Best Individual Multiplier | 1 Lorette Dewing (85 points), 2 Madelein Stumpf (78), 3 Dave Ogden, Terence Doyle (74)

Order of Merit | 1 Lorette Dewing (43), 2 Madelein Stumpf (39), Dave Ogden (38)

SMILING FROM TEE TO TEE | We have a champion in our midst!

Congratulations to our very own Fiona Richard for winning the B division of the GolfRSA Champion of Champions regional finals.

She tamed the course at Walmer Golf Club in Gqeberha to earn herself a spot at next month’s nationals in the Free State.

A special shoutout, too, to Wayne Broedelet, who placed second in the men’s section.

It's a huge achievement for a small club that well and truly puts us on the golfing map.

BOKS SPOTTED | With so much rugby fever going around, we probably should've expected a visit by the bokkies at our Order of Merit competition on Wednesday.

Not one, not two, but THREE newborns were spotted in the gallery for the Betterball showdown, which the 21 players took as a good omen for tomorrow's Greatest Rivalry opener.

Kud(u)s to Jim Maitland in particular for shooting his best-ever round (56 nett).

A doff of the cap to everyone else who helped made up the numbers - for Betterball or worse.

RESULTS

Betterball | 1 Jim Matland & Reynier Bekker (49 points), 2 Stephen Daly & Alan Percy (49 C/O), 3 Terence Doyle & John Price (44)

Best IPS | 1 Jim Maitland (44), 2 Alan Percy & John Price (40), 4 Slobby Breetzke (38)

BALANCE TO THE FORCE | Being the leftfield thinkers we are, we simply had to tinker with the format of last Wednesday's Zebra Classic.

Add to that the fact that we believe in equal rights, we decided to offer the 12 teams that took part an 85 per cent handicap allowance.

For the novices out there, a shaved allowance like the aforementioned brings greater balance - we like to think of it as equality - to the field since a format like the 4-Ball Alliance traditionally favours players with a higher handicap.

Another equaliser on the day was that howling wind and, to be fair, every one of our 46 players needed all the help they could get!

Thankfully they rose to the challenge beautifully and the drinks afterwards went down a treat.

RESULTS

Best nett | Nico De Wit & Clive Wulfsohn (66 points)

4-Ball Alliance | 1 Bokkie Brigade (82), 2 Thirsties (78), 3 Slice ’n Dice (77)

2 Club | Reynier Bekker, Nick Evans, Phil Collet, Okkie Steyn

BRIGHT, SUNSHINY DAY | As welcome as one of our wettest winters in years has been, the arrival of glorious weather for Sundowners last Friday was just cause for celebration.

A field of 44 told you everything you needed to know about players wanting to feel the sun on their back again.

Naturally the golf was befitting of the day.

RESULTS

CHOOSING WISELY | That was the “order” of the day for the 25 golfers who turned out for Sards’s OOM (that’s Order of Merit to the uninformed) comp on August 5.

AUGUST PRESENCE | A pitch and a punch for the first of the month.

While that wasn’t exactly the theme of our Monthly Medal Mug competition, it wasn’t too far off as 18 players got August off to a great start on Saturday.

It may have been a tad windy and chilly but the sun was out, which was all that mattered.

Cheers to all for going clubbing when a late lie-in would have been extremely tempting.

RESULTS

Men’s nett | 1 John Price (67), 2 Clive Wolfsohn (69)

Ladies' nett | 1 Fiona Richard (69) Janine Lee (70)

Best gross | Fiona Richard (78)
