Ugu District Aquatics hosted a free water safety and learn to swim programme at the Marburg municipal pool and at Port Edward Primary swimming pool last week.
Lessons were provided by professional instructors.
The initiative was well supported. About 124 swimmers visited the Marburg pool over three days, with four instructors in attendance. At Port Edward pool, one instructor assisted 50 swimmers.
“The focus was on pool entry and exit, safety in and around the pool, floating, face in the water, blowing bubbles and kicking. Some swimmers were even able to learn the fundamentals of freestyle.
She thanked Swimming South Africa and KZN Aquatics for assisting with the finances for this initiative. “We would also like to thank the principal of Port Edward Primary and Ugu District Municipality for a clean Marburg pool. She also thanked the instructors for their commitment to teaching all those who wanted to learn,” said Mandy Koegelenberg from Ugu District Aquatics..
