Sports and leisure has been neglected by the community which makes it hard for the children to know about sports and to grow up playing sports. This exposes them to violence, drugs, alcohol and crime at an early age because there is nothing keeping them off the streets. Sport Program Association was founded on the 24th of June 2013 and had its 1st practice on the 25th of June 2013 at the Samaritan
Centre Children’s Home in Polokwane as Sport Programs for Children. Different governments of the world have confirmed how important the children are by passing the laws aimed at protecting and upholding the rights of the children. Today we are saddened by the unfortunate turn of events wherein the children have become casualties and victims of abuse in the whole world. Sport has become an increasingly important activity within education, representing society’s increased focus on health and fitness. Sport is often one of the favourite activities for many young children and is therefore a good way to ensure that they remain focused and engaged within the community
Involving children in sports is important for many reasons. Among them are the developments of a sense of appreciation for the values of teamwork, leadership, cooperation and, of course, exercise. A child may not develop a passion for team sports such as basketball or baseball, so encourage involvement in a variety of sporting atmospheres. This will enable the children to express themselves:
• Intellectually
• Creatively
• Socially
• Physically and
• Spiritually as individuals
Aim
Enhancing the quality of life of children through Sports, leisure and recreational activities based on an educational foundation
Main Purpose
The core purpose is to build children’s personal functioning which includes the enhancement of self-esteem, self-assertiveness, building intellectual capacity, problem solving, innovative thinking, leadership skills, emotional development and social cohesion. In order for this program to be successful (i.e. to witness long term development and growth of the children participating in this program), it must be implemented on a continuous base
