MEC Maseko Speaks about the South African Sign Language and Deaf Awareness Month Launch.

Ealier today the MEC for Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Limpopo Funani Jerry Maseko gave a keynote adress at the South African Sign Language and Deaf Awareness Launch at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane.

The MEC emphasized the importance of communication inclusivity in government programmes and Service delivery amongs the Deaf community, historically, Deaf people have being excluded in government services but that is the things of the past as now the South African Sign Language is being included as the 12th official language.

In collaboration with DEAFSA, CATHSSETA and the Department of Sport,Arts and Culture, the South African Sign language will be taken very seriously and be used in government services.

MEC for Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Limpopo Funani Jerry Maseko has arrived at the Launch of the South African Sign Language Skills programme and mainstreaming initiative and the Deaf Awareness Month, joining them for the briefing is leadership of DEAFSA, the leadership of CATHSSETA, the Language services directorate unit in the Department of Sport,Arts and Culture, The head of Department.

Member of Executive Council for Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Funani Jerry Maseko, his executive management and staff yesterday welcomed triumphant Team Limpopo as they arrived from Rustenburg from participating and competing at Special Olympics Summer Championship.

The team was welcomed with ululations and cheers for their excellent exploids at the SOSA games. Team Limpopo scooped a Gold Medal in Marathon, Table tennis and Basketball. The accolades also included 8 bronze medals and two individuals medals for participation.

MEC Maseko speaking with pride and absolute joy, "Your victory is a powerful testament to what is possible when we invest in School Sport, club development and inclusive sport. This is the fruits of hard work, discipline and support from your coaches, families and teachers.
I am even more delighted that your excellence has been recognized nationally. Our female Basketball team, including Sh*tlhangu Hope and Vusimusi Ramathuba, have now been selected to form part of Team South Africa to represent our country in Chile next year at the World Special Olympics Championships. You are now not just ambassadors of Limpopo, but ambassadors of South Africa."

The Department will continue to support Special Olympics, School Sport and sport development programmes to ensure more athletes like you get the opportunity to excel.

Tell Limpopo Basketball and the table tennis and marathon medalist will represent South Africa at the 2027 World Special Olympics in Chile.
