Pinetown JKA Karate Institute Pinetown JKA Karate Institute is a JKA KZN karate club, based in Cowies Hill, Durban. Yet karate is much more than merely physical.

It is headed by Dylan Powell (4th Dan) and holds classes for all ages (5+) and belt levels, taught by a team of 8 black belt instructors, ensuring attention to detail🥋 Karate is a martial art and system of self-defence that originated hundreds of years ago in Okinawa, but was greatly influenced by an even older tradition from China. Literally, “karate-do” means “the way of the empty hand,” referri

ng to the fact that its practitioners use no weapons to attack and defend, but only the hands, feet, and body. It is founded on a grand philosophical and spiritual tradition based on Bushido and Zen Buddhist principles. Through hard training and practice, karate develops not only the body but also the mind and character. The ultimate purpose of karate is not physical prowess or the winning of matches, but the development of balance, harmony and spiritual and physical strength through strict, disciplined training. Karate schools you in natural, effortless action, and imbues you with an openness, peace, and wholeness of character that vastly enrich day-to-day life.

A big congratulations to everybody that graded successfully this week💯 that marks the end of Term 2 and we are proud of each and every student, for their hard work and commitment this term👌🏻 Oss!

A big thank you to the students and parents, for another great term, and to all of our instructors, seniors and those that assisted at the gradings👌🏻 we appreciate it greatly!

Another SA JKA National Championships has come and gone and wow, what a weekend it was, as usual💯

We took 46 competitors this year and our team managed to come home with 49 medals👌🏻 it is not all about the medals but it is a great way to gauge the improvement and achievement of our students!

Along with this event, one of our students, Kirhav, attended the Region South Championships in Angola and managed to come home with a silver🤟🏻 congrats buddy!

Regardless of the results, we are beyond proud of all of our students for the hard work they have put in and their constant effort in training💯 you guys made sure that you were ready and gave it your all and that’s all we can ask for👌🏻 yes, disappointment can creep in if you didn’t do as well as you would have hoped, but it’s all part of the process and lessons were learnt this weekend!

I just want to give a big thank you to the students and their families for attending and committing to the event and to the judges, referees and table officials for helping make the tournament possible for our students💯

A huge thank you to SA JKA and Sensei Warren for putting on another successful tournament and for always ensuring the weekend runs smoothly for our students to do their best👌🏻

Lastly, I just want to say a big thank you to our coaches for all their hard work over the two days😑 it’s a tough 2 days for coaches and they didn’t stop, ensuring our students were taken care of and in the right place at the right time - thank you as always! Oss!
