3 pillars of karate 👊🥋
*KIHON —* This is the root of the tree. Kihon means basics. It is where everything starts. Punches, kicks, blocks, stances, done a thousand times in the air. It looks boring, but it is the most important. Without strong Kihon, you have no karate. It is like learning ABC before you write a book. Every black belt still goes back to Kihon every day.
*KATA —* This is the trunk and branches. Kata is a fight against imaginary opponents. It teaches you how to move, how to breathe, how to connect your Kihon together. It has rhythm, balance, power and spirit. Kata carries the wisdom of old masters inside it. When you do Kata, you are not just moving — you are keeping a 200-year-old history alive.
*KUMITE —* This is the flowers at the top. Kumite means sparring, the real application. It is where you test your Kihon and your Kata against a real person. You learn timing, distance, courage, and respect. In Kyokushin, we say Kumite is not about hurting someone, it is about controlling your fear and your ego. The flowers only bloom if the roots are deep and the trunk is strong.
