πŸŽ‰βš½ 16 Years of Changing Lives Through Sport! βš½πŸŽ‰

This year, Mbekweni Community Sport Centre celebrated a special milestoneβ€”16 years since our launch on 12 June 2010, just one day after the FIFA World Cup kicked off in South Africa. And sixteen years later, we brought the World Cup spirit back to MCSC!πŸ’«

Our birthday celebrations took place from 12–15 June and featured an exciting Mini World Cup with eight teams representing different countries. 🌍⚽

Through our "SCORE Cup of Heroes" format, boys and girls played together, promoting teamwork, inclusion, and respect. And the competition went beyond football... Teams earned points both on and off the field through cultural presentations, country-themed dress and displays, environmental posters, creativity, sportsmanship and team spirit. In celebration of Environmental Month and our theme, "Taking Pride in Our Centre," participants also showcased how they can help protect and care for the environment.

Prizes were awarded across various categories, and the overall champions were crowned based on the highest combined score for both their on-field performance and off-field participation.πŸ†

What made the event truly special was seeing our young people learn, compete, celebrate different cultures and create lasting memories together.

THANK YOU to everyone who has been part of our journey over the past 16 years! THANK YOU to Hope Through Action for building us this wonderful centre! And here's to many more years of impact, growth, and community pride! πŸ’›πŸ’š
Happy Birthday, MCSC!!πŸ₯³πŸŽ‚πŸŽŠ

Thank you, Kwezi for visiting us - great to see you again! And thank you to our partner
YoluntuCentre for your recognition of the work we do!

Nelson Mandela famously said that sport has the power to change the world.

Sport has the power to β€œspeak to the youth in a language they understand”.

This β€œlanguage” of sport is spoken fluently at the Mbekweni Community Sport Centre. A centre in Paarl where:
⚽️ The youth of Mbekweni are actively engaged in a variety of sports;
πŸ₯… 90 interns are employed annually;
πŸ‰ The aim is to create a space where β€œeveryone has a seat”.

Pictured here is Kwezi Lomso Shumi, first manager of the centre at its opening in 2010, and currently community engagement officer at Be Part.

But sport does far more than just train the physical body. For the youth of Mbekweni, sport provides a safe refuge from the socio-economic challenges they face.
It teaches them valuable life skills. Like leadership, decision-making, self-discipline.

But the most valuable lesson sport teaches, is teamwork.
Teamwork is a skill critical to successfully navigating every key relationship throughout life. Whether it be relationships in the marketplace (college, work), or relationships at home (parents, siblings, partners, children or friends).

The mark of having graduated from youth to adulthood is a journey from dependence to independence. But the most successful and fulfilled adults are those who excel at being inter-dependent.
Ubuntu. Otherwise known as teamwork. Recognising that we need each other.

Compared with a mere collection of individuals, a cohesive team will always deliver the superior product.

At Be Part we are a team of 45 professionals. Working together and proudly embracing our dependence on one another. Including our dependence on our participant community.

🏐 U16 NETBALL LIFE SKILLS DAY πŸ’™

On 23 May 2026, our Mbekweni Community Sport Centre U16 Female Netball Team spent the afternoon at Mbekweni Rugby Field for a special Life Skills Day from 13:00–18:00.

With league games postponed, we turned the day into an opportunity for growth beyond the court. The girls participated in discussions and fun activities focused on:
✨ Personal Branding
✨ Peer Pressure
✨ Life Decision-Making

The session included ice breakers, team games, TikTok sessions, quiz games, educational activities, group reflections, and scenario-based discussions that kept the players engaged and learning throughout the day.

It was beautiful to see the girls actively participating, supporting one another, and opening up about real-life challenges young athletes face daily. The players left with valuable lessons on making good choices, building confidence, representing themselves positively, and handling peer pressure.

We are also grateful for the positive feedback received from parents who appreciated the importance of combining sport with life skills and character development.

A big thank you to Coach Asiphe for making this day successful and memorable for our young athletes! πŸ’™πŸ

Volleyball Teamwork Makes the Dream Work! πŸπŸ’™

At the end of last week, our Senior Female Volleyball Team took time for meaningful team building- sharing words of encouragement and advice for the Easter weekend ahead. Moments like these remind us that for this team, volleyball is more than just a sport β€” and the Mbekweni Community Sport Centre is more than just a place to play. It’s a family. 🀍

Last Thursday, the team stepped off the court and into a space of connection, where they shared heartfelt and touching moments with one another. These are the bonds that strengthen not only our game but who we are as a team.

We're so grateful for the unity, growth, and love within this group! πŸ™πŸ’«

MCSC U/16 Netball Girls "Maak Shaba"!πŸ”₯🏐 | Flashback to March 24th...

What a massive performance by our MCSC U/16 ladies in their friendly match against La Rochelle High School! These girls truly showcased beautiful netball and real fighting spirit. πŸ’ͺ🏾✨

It was a really valuable training match against our wonderful opponents, and as always, we appreciate the sportsmanship and competitive energy shared on court. Thank you to La Rochelle High School for these experiences, opportunities, and exposure - it means so much for the growth of our players!

And special mention to our amazing supporters: Vuyo, who joined us as both a parent and Senior A player, Yuma, our SCORE volunteer from the Netherlands, and Zuki Zantsi, who came through to support as a proud parent. Your presence and moral support is really appreciated! πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Mandy Hermanus, Head of Netball at La Rochelle, for always including us in these opportunities and to Coach Nicolene, Cape Winelands Coaches Convener, for her continued support!

This was an unforgettable experience for our girls, and we are already looking forward to the next one! πŸ’™

It's Not Just A Sport, It's Our Passion!!

The MCSC Senior Female Netball Team is oh, SO ready for the season ahead!!

This year, the team has moved up a league and is now competing in the Maties Regional Netball League, which brings a higher level of competition and the challenge of indoor netball.

The team played their first match against GHS Netball Team and lost 41–55. Although the result was not in our favour, it was an important learning experience as the team began to adjust to stronger opposition and a faster indoor game.

To continue preparing and improving, the team also played a practice match against the La Rochelle High School A Netball Team.

Such opportunities help the players build confidence, sharpen skills and strengthen their teamwork. And they're already demonstrating progress.... their last match was against the Paarl 2 team at Coetzenburg Arena - and they won 52-35!!

We are incredibly proud of how far this team has come! πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ Now please join us in rooting for them as they continue to grow this season! πŸ’šπŸπŸ’«

Game On!!πŸπŸ’›

Our MCSC Senior Female Volleyball Team recently played a few friendly games against SCSC. Although they won both matches, the games were not really about the scores - they were about the progress and effort the team has been putting in long before the official training sessions began.
The matches were also a great opportunity to welcome new teammates and continue building team unity. The team showed true sportsmanship by being respectful, encouraging the opposing team during and after the games, and constantly cheering each other on.
It was a great display of teamwork, growth, and positive spirit both on and off the court. πŸπŸ‘
