For this edition of Harvest in Full Colour, we looked to one of nature's most understated treasures: ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐’‰๐’–๐’Ž๐’ƒ๐’๐’† ๐’ˆ๐’“๐’†๐’†๐’ ๐’„๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’†.

Its layered leaves, soft gradients of green, and naturally abundant form inspired a bouquet that celebrates texture, volume and organic movement.

The fresh green tones of the cabbage are reflected through a rich tapestry of indigenous foliage- conebush (๐ฟ๐‘๐‘‘ ๐‘š๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘–๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘ข๐‘š) and berzelias, while delicate grasses introduce the gentle curves and layered structure found within its leaves.

Cotton brings in the crisp white highlights hidden beneath the outer layers, adding softness and contrast to the composition.

What appears simple at first glance reveals remarkable complexity up close - a reminder that beauty doesn't need to be exotic to be extraordinary.

One of the things we love most about proteas is that their beauty doesn't end when they're fresh. With a little patience, you can transform your blooms into stunning dried flowers that can be enjoyed for months - even years.

๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐Ÿ: Prepare Your Proteas
Remove all the leaves from the stems and keep the stems as long as possible. Gather up to three stems together and secure them with a rubber band near the bottom.

๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐Ÿ: Hang Them Upside Down
Hang your proteas upside down from a hanger, hook, or nail.

๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐Ÿ‘: Find the Perfect Spot
Choose a dry, dark room with good air circulation. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause the flowers to fade.

๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐Ÿ’: Let Nature Do the Work
Leave the proteas to dry for 2โ€“3 weeks. Check on them after a couple of weeks. If they still feel soft, allow a little more drying time.

๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฉ ๐Ÿ“: Ready to Enjoy
Once fully dry, remove the rubber band and your proteas are ready to use in arrangements, wreaths, tablescapes, and creative botanical displays.

Simply place a few proteas with long stems into an empty vase. Make sure the flowers aren't touching each other and leave them in a dark, well-ventilated room for 2โ€“3 weeks.

Harvest in Full Colour celebrates the remarkable way nature repeats itself through colour, texture and form. Inspired by the rich pigments found in seasonal fruits and vegetables, each bouquet begins with a harvest and evolves into a floral interpretation of its palette.

๐…๐จ๐ซ ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ, ๐ƒ๐ซ๐š๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐…๐ซ๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.
Its vibrant pink peel is echoed through Pink Ice and Erica, while the fruit's distinctive white flesh speckled with black seeds is reimagined using Niobe and conebush (Lcd meridianum). By carefully removing the foliage from the conebush stems, we created the dotted accents that capture the fruit's unmistakable character.

The Annual General Meeting of the CFSA took place on 28 May 2026 at De Meye Wine Estate, bringing together more than 100 members and industry role-players for a day of insightful discussions, networking, and technical presentations.

An inspiring day of learning, creativity, and floral artistry

We were proud to host a workshop in collaboration with McQueens Flower School, bringing together aspiring freelance florists and creatives for a hands-on experience in the art of fynbos floral design.

Led by our very own Karien Bezuidenhout, manager at Cape Flora SA, the session shared some insight into the industry and floral inspiration with the next generation of design talent.
