🏹 Celebrating Our Freedom Archery Outdoor League Champions!

Freedom Archery is incredibly proud to celebrate our archers who competed in the Outdoor League Shoot throughout the year, and who qualified for — and competed in — the final shoot this past Sunday.

To qualify for the finals, archers had to shoot a minimum of five scored rounds during the season — a true test of consistency, commitment, and dedication. Our club was proudly represented across multiple divisions, with outstanding results to show for it.

Barebow Novice (30 m / 20 m)

Compound Intermediate (50 m / 30 m)
🎯 5th Place – Dean McHendry

Recurve Junior (15 m)

🌟 Special Shoutout – Top Overall Score for 2025 Recurve Division:
Willem Kaffka achieved the highest total score across all shoots for the year: 6414

Congratulations to every archer who put in the hours on the shooting line — through wind, weather, and pressure. Your results reflect your dedication and passion for what you do.

Freedom Archery couldn’t be prouder — here’s to continued growth, strong arrows, and even bigger goals ahead 🎯👏 We look forward to seeing even more archers joining in the league shoots next year!

Freedom Archery has new swag, and we’re proud of it 🎯 Our new team shirt is all about representing the Freedom family: the early mornings on the range, the beautiful Paarl evenings where we shoot long past the end of a class, the focus, the laughs, the shared wins, and the simple joy of shooting together.

Dean’s out there wearing it with pride - and it’ll soon become a symbol of who we are as a club.

A big shout-out to all our archers who took part in the Indoor National Championships this past weekend!

The event was held at venues across South Africa, with scores combined for the national rankings.

🥇 Huge congratulations to Steven Whitehead, who took gold in the Recurve Men 50+ category.
🥈 Well done to Lisa McHendry for earning silver in the Barebow Women’s category.
🥉 Shout-out to Willem Kafka for claiming bronze in the Recurve Men U21 category.

A special mention goes to Lisa McHendry and her Western Cape teammate Hugo Roussouw, who took gold in the Mixed Team Barebow Provincial category—beating out a strong Gauteng team who came in second!

Big shoutout to our very own Sirocco Winter (Grade 9) who is now the Western Cape Indoor Archery champion! 🎯🏆

Sirocco worked incredibly hard, competing consistently over the past few weekends. The final round was a true nail-biter—he showed incredible focus under pressure, shooting two bullseyes (10s) and an 8 to clinch the title!

Congratulations, Sirocco, on this amazing achievement! Your dedication and hard work have truly paid off.

Freedom Archery Shines at the Western Cape Provincial Indoor Champs 🎯 What an incredible day on the range! On Sunday, our Freedom Archery crew competed in the Western Cape Provincial Indoor Championships – and we’re thrilled to celebrate some fantastic results!

The event featured two competitions: a 60-arrow ranking round (the 600 round) and a nail-biting match play elimination phase.

We’re proud to say we brought home medals from both parts of the event! 🏅

🥇 Gold Medal Winners (Ranking Round & Match Play):
- Masuret van Heerden (U13 Boys Recurve)
- Anja van Heerden (U18 Womens Barebow)
- Stephen Whitehead (50+ Men’s Recurve)

🥇 Double Medal Winner:
- Lisa McHendry (Women’s Barebow) – gold in both the 600 round and match play!

🥈🥇 Silver & Gold Conversions:
- Sorocco Winter (U18 Men’s Recurve) – silver in ranking, gold in match play
- Willem Kafka (U21 Men’s Recurve) – silver in ranking, gold in match play

🥉 Bronze Medals:
- Dean McHendry (Men’s Compound) – bronze in both the ranking round and match play

💫 Special Shoutouts:
A great touch from the Western Cape Archery Federation was recognising archers who achieved personal bests or shot higher than their average score (taken across 3 indoor competitions).
- Well done to Coach Dean for shooting his PB on Sunday!
- Congrats to Lisa for shooting 12 points higher than her average score!

👏 A special thank you to for hosting such a smooth-running event.

No matter the category, every one of our archers did an outstanding job. Even those without direct competitors proved they’re the best in the province for their divisions!

Huge congrats to all, and thank you for representing Freedom Archery with such skill and spirit. Onwards and upwards! 🏹

Freedom Archery Shines at the Edna Trimmer Indoor Championships 🎯 This past weekend, 10 Freedom Archers stepped onto the line at the Edna Trimmer Indoor Championships — and what a memorable day it was! The range was alive with energy, encouragement, and plenty of great arrows.

Following the incredible success of the Val de Vie Super Saturday archery sessions, I’m thrilled to announce that Freedom Archery will now officially offer beginner archery classes to Val De Vie residents! Starting on Thursday afternoons from 4pm onwards, residents can join us for an introductory lesson or sign up for weekly beginner classes. Get in touch to reserve your spot and take aim at an exciting new hobby!
