Lotus High School KNOWLEDGE BEGETS WISDOM

09/10/2023

Dear Parents

On the eve of the new term, I wish to remind you of some of the things I mentioned in my end of term letter, which I hope you all received and read.

Learners are expected to wear full school uniform from tomorrow.

No beanies, no hoodies and no jackets will be permitted. Learners will have these items confiscated until the end of the year and sent home to change into school uniform. No trainers or other shoes, other than school shoes, will be permitted. Please do not allow your child wear non uniform items.

I mentioned that children are smoking ci******es and w**d at school and that we will be searching learners every day. If your child is found in possession of illegal substances, they will be suspended, sent home and will face a disciplinary hearing. Schools are drug free zones and we will not tolerate learners who use, possess and distribute illegal substances.

Learners who are late for school will be sent home. School STARTS at 8am. Learners must be at school at 07:55. Please make sure your child is at school on time. You have been advised that they will be sent home if they arrive after 8am.

Learners who bunk classes, litter the school and who are disrespectful to educators will be suspended from classes and will do community service around the school. We will no longer tolerate learners who disrespect the school or staff.

Finally, learners who disrupt classes and the education of other learners will be sent home. Every child has a right to an education. Those children who disrupt education at Lotus High will be sent home. Please get this message to your children.

As parents or guardians, it is your responsibility to ensure your child attends school to learn. It is my responsibility to ensure curriculum delivery and the safety of your child AT school. If any learners disrupts education or endangers other learners, I will respond immediately.

“My classmates and I attended the UTC Health Science And Public communication competition and gained a lot of knowledge on a variation of researches which included different diagnosis, cancer cures and cancer medication as well as inherited disorders, it was a very exciting, fun and educational experience that not only educated us but also made us aware of the seriousness of diseases and disorders that were not even known to us so on the behalf of my class mates and I I would like to thank Mr.Isaacs who made it all possible and allowed us a once in a lifetime opportunity and experience.” - Yumnah Abbas Gr 11 learner ♥️

WHAT A LOVELY DAY IT WAS 📚 ♥️

Yusuf Daniels, a South African writer who describes himself as an accidental author, visited our school today!
The grade 11 learners enjoyed meeting him - his message was clear: have a goal and work at it, even if you are the only one who believes in yourself. It will lead to success 👏🏽👏🏽

Thank you for visiting our school Mr. Daniels. Our kids truly appreciated EACH AND EVERY MOMENT 🫶🏽

Dear Lotus High Community

It is with a deep sadness that I inform you that Mrs Karen Grosch passed away in the early hours of this morning. She had been struggling with respiratory problems for a few years and towards the end of last year, she had a lung operation. Despite a brave battle she slipped away early this morning. She is survived by her husband, Ivan, and her 3 sons.

Mrs Grosch was Lotus through and through.....having completed her B. A. and H.D.E at UCT in 1989, she started her teaching career here at Lotus High in January 1990. She taught History and Afrikaans at the school and ended her career as a Senior Teacher. She was very diligent in her preparation and the results of her learners bore testimony to that. She was also a Subject Head for many years. She was resolute in her passion for Lotus High and, unlike so many others, she was willing to walk the talk for our School.

Mrs Grosch served the School beyond the classroom in many ways. She served on the SBST, the SDT and was actively involved in girls’ soccer and netball.

There is no doubt that Mrs Grosch was a mother figure to her learners, and indeed to many colleagues over the years. My office has been inundated with learners this morning expressing their sadness and condolences at her passing. She really connected with her learners and built long-standing relationships with them.

As an educator, she was a legend. Her commitment and loyalty to both the School and her learners is testament to her character.
Independent and full of passion for our School, Mrs Grosch touched the hearts and lives of parents, staff and learners alike with her special brand of love and compassion.

One of the special ways in which she touched our lives was when she would bake a cake for a colleague’s birthday. Mrs Grosch loved to bake and it was her little surprise and labour of love to bake a cake.

In ways too numerous to detail, Mrs Grosch was Lotus High and we will miss her terribly.

Farewell dear Karen....you were everything God asked you to be....a good and faithful servant. Thank you for your service.

Our condolences go out to her former colleagues, friends and most importantly, her family
