WHY NO WOMENS PRESIDENTS CUP TEAM??
So I really enjoy watching TEAM competition in golf! A couple of weeks ago the Solheim Cup (in the women’s game) and this week the Presidents Cup (in the men’s game)
It got me to thinking why we don’t see a President’s Cup in women’s golf?
In the men’s game the Ryder Cup is still the biggest attraction because of all the great rivalry and history! Also the two teams are stronger on paper than the President’s Cup team. Obviously also the US has dominated in the Presidents Cup where the Ryder is very much 50/50.
Currently and on paper (World Golf Rankings) the US have the strongest team with a combined WGR of 149, Europe are a combined 229 and Presidents Cup team are a combined 413.
Interestingly in the women’s game the Presidents Cup team is by far the strongest team! Their combined WGR is 144, the US is 300 and Europe is 528! If fact the Presidents Cup 2nd team combined WGR is 383!
Even if you went on the LPGA rankings the Presidents Cup team would be a combined 133, US 216 and Europe 498!
So basically we don’t see the strongest team in women’s golf and obviously a lot of the best players in the world play team golf?? Surely a great opportunity to add this event to calendar!
In theory this event should deliver the best team event! Of course the rivalry would take time to develop but with such quality it shouldn’t take long.
Surprising the LPGA hasn’t iniated this potential event with just about all of players playing on this Tour? Or am I missing something?
