Mt. Edgecombe CC Angling Section

Mt. Edgecombe CC Angling Section Mount Edgecombe Country Club Fishing The newest of the Club Sections, Mount Edgecombe Country Club Angling Section (MECCAS) was started in July 2012.

Its aim is to promote the sport of angling and provide facilities for its members. Since its formation, it has also become known as the “Mount Edgecombe Fishing Club.” Currently the Section activity is focused only on fresh water fishing on the MECC estate. Membership is open to Residential and Non Residential Members of MECC at the discretion of the MECCAS Committee and the MECC Board. The number

of allowed members is determined in accordance with the number of lakes/ponds and available locations at these waters on the MECC property and the impact on golfing activities. The formation of MECCAS has generated a lot of interest and a waiting list has been opened for prospective members. As vacancies occur in the membership, persons on the waiting list are offered an opportunity to join the section on a first come, first served basis. As members are allowed up to two guests, the current number of members is pegged at 65 to enable the MECC governing body to assess the impact that angling activities may have on Golf activities. This number will be reviewed from time to time and adjusted accordingly. Use of the estate waters is strictly controlled to prevent interference with golfing activities. All waters are classified with “allowed fishing times” assigned to the various locations which are clearly shown on maps of the golf courses. Present in the estate waters are a number of species including Bass, Carp, Tilapia, Barbel and Eels. Catch and release is encouraged. Photos and details of catches may be sent to any committee member for consideration for inclusion in the Photo Gallery. Please include details of date, time, length, weight, species, bait used and name of the angler when sending these. Qualifying persons wishing to join MECCAS are invited to contact the MECC administration department (Julie Worlock 031 – 5395330) to have their names added to the waiting list.

Dear Member

By now I am sure you are all aware of the Nelson Mandela Golf Tournament taking place in the next couple of weeks and the special arrangements and restrictions on carts and access to the Golf Courses as per the communications from Management.

8th December – Course 1 officially closed for Sunshine Tour use only
9th December – Official Practise Round
10th December – Pro Am
11th December – Official Practise Round
12th -15th December – Tournament
After consultation with Grant Durose the MECC GM please note the following changes to fishing rules are to be observed during this period.

Course 2 – no change.

Course 1 –

No fishing from 06h00 until after the daily close of golf activities estimated at 18h00.
Access to fishing areas behind 15 and 16 will only be permitted via the dirt road between the 12th and 16th fairways and then on the concrete cart paths from the end of the dirt road and/or via the dump dirt road.
Under no circumstances are golf carts allowed on FAIRWAYS or in the rough during this period.

PLEASE make sure that the tournament has been concluded for the day before venturing to the fishing spots.

Another observation from the Greens Committee is that - if the golf course is closed to golf and /or golf carts because of wet conditions this applies to anglers as well. What this means is that if you wish to fish in these conditions, you will have to walk to the fishing spots taking note of golfers on the course. This applies all year round, not just during the tournament.

Please ensure that you comply !

- As per Mr. Ron Duckworth - Chairman
