BSA has introduced a long awaited initiative by conducting workshops for boxing officials,trainers/managers and boxing promoters which turned sour in that it is now used to spite on licencees that challenge issues that are affecting boxing in SA.

When a licencees comments against BSA he/she automatically fails the test provided at the shorkshop.

This is a Democratic country and people have freedom of speech ,and victimizing people for exercising their rights is crime in this country.

A horrific car accident in December 2006 has ended the boxing career of WBC International flyweight champion Mhikiza Myekeni.

This was revealed by his Johannesburg trainer Nick Durandt despite Myekeni's initial insistence that he would return to action in November 2007.

Myekeni, 29, fractured his leg when he smashed into the back of a truck in his home town, Westbank, near East London.

He spent two months at Frere hospital where doctors told him that he would never box again.

However Myekeni insisted that he would return to boxing.

But Durandt said the extent of the injury he suffered from the accident had put paid to his boxing career.

"It is so sad when someone's career is cut short in such an horrific way," Durandt said.

Myekeni, a former undefeated South African junior flyweight and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) champion left East London to join Durandt in Johannesburg after he was stripped of his IBO crown for inactivity.

He dropped a points decision to the late Mzukisi Sikali for the IBO flyweight crown before rebounding to claim the WBC International flyweight title which earned him crack at the WBC title held by legendary Thailand fighter Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in November.

Although he lost to the great Thai fighter, Myekeni achieved some sort of a milestone as he became the first fighter to force Wonjongkam to make a mandatory title defence in three years.

The fight proved to be his last in the ring as he suffered the accident a few weeks later.
