The club also strives to assist in generating a greater sense of responsibility amongst the members by proving an alternative to drugs and gangsterism (a member in sport is a member out of crime). we embrace the fact that we live in a society that is culturally and racially diversified and we want our club to reflect this diversity. We expect our club to be made up of members from all socio-economic sectors of our society. Our reach extends from Lentegeur to other areas of Mitchells Plain where we work with various communities to find members who embrace the game of soccer who do not have the means to participate in a professionally run soccer club. Our club attempts to raise funds to enable participation across all levels of our society and to provide an environment of soccer excellence to all of our members. The club is run by volunteers along with considerable help from the parents of our members. Our mission is to see all of our players achieve their full potential as members while also learning valuable life lessons through the environment of competitive sports. We are a community-based club, which is devoted to supporting the children in the community with quality instruction, playing fields and, when needed, financial assistance. is an organisation dedicated to being a club that is recognised for its excellence in character and instruction, while promoting and fostering the game of soccer. The club was founded in 1975 by 2 gentlemen, Stanley Johnson and Alie Wentzel, who resided in Upper Ashley Street in District Six, hence the name, ASHLEY ROVERS. In 1985 the club was re-established after many of its members relocated to Mitchells Plain and affiliated to the Lentegeur Football Association. The club is now known as Ashley Rovers A.F.C. (affiliated football club). The year 1990 saw the dawn of a new era for sport with the amalgamation of the former racial football bodies into 1 being SAFA WP. The club joined the ranks of the newly formed Mitchells Plain Football District. Lentegeur Soccer Association was opened in 1993. Due to the huge travelling expenses incurred, the club joined this association. We, however, lost many of the founder members of the club with the average age of the senior members being only 22. The club currently plays under the banner of the unified football body in Mitchells Plain, namely Local Football Association Mitchells Plain (LFAMP). Our history places us within a unique group of clubs as being part of the earliest clubs to be established in Lentegeur to pioneer the huge and growing sport of soccer. At Ashley Rovers A.F.C., we are proud to offer Lentegeur community an excellent member development program that uses soccer as a vehicle.
