Built by hand in the 1880s, the Swartberg Pass remains 27 kilometres of exposed shale, razor-sharp hairpins, and sheer drop-offs - as unforgiving today as the day it opened.

The Western Cape passes might not get the same press as vast desert expanses, but the terrain is brutally punishing. Sustained washboard corrugations rapidly overheat standard shock absorbers, causing oil aeration and loss of damping control right when you need chassis stability the most.
