The fish were biting, the scales were climbing, and despite Biagio donating a fishing rod to Maguga Dam 😅🎣, the team still managed to put together an impressive 5.545 kg bag to secure 3rd place on the podium! 🏆🐟
Their determination (and refusal to let a lost rod ruin the day) paid off with a fantastic finish in a competitive field. 💪🔥
For their efforts, they received R6,000 cash sponsored by Subaru Nelspruit, Carsource, and HC Distribution, along with a R3,000 voucher sponsored by Marine Components, bringing their total prize value to R9,000 💰🎁
The rod may still be somewhere at the bottom of Maguga, but at least the prize money helped ease the pain! 😂👏

🎣 Lowveld Bass Trail – Leg 5 Recap | Maguga Dam

Leg 5 of the 2026 Lowveld Bass Trail at Maguga Dam turned into a strong and rewarding event for Team Bass Hunter.

We managed to put together a full 5-fish bag weighing 5.545kg, which earned us an excellent 3rd place finish against a competitive field. (98 Grand Prix Points)

After a productive start with an early 1.7kg fish, we continued grinding throughout the day — making crucial upgrades later on to build a more competitive bag for weigh-in.

This result now places us on 465 Grand Prix points, moving us up to 4th overall on the season log as we continue the push toward Finals qualification and ultimately the Super Finals (TTT Nationals).

We are extremely grateful for all the support we continue to receive and thankful to be able to compete in such an incredible sport alongside great people and great competition.

Momentum continues to build. 🎯🎣

🎣 2nd Biggest Fish – Leg 5 | Maguga Dam

Congratulations to Jack Beharrie from Magkwaza Hookers on landing the 2nd biggest fish during Leg 5 of the Lowveld Bass Trail at Maguga Dam.

A solid bass weighing 2.285kg earned him the 2nd Biggest Fish award, proudly sponsored by Yeet Marketing and Team Bass Hunter.

Quality fish like this can completely change a tournament day, and this was definitely one of the standout catches of the event.

🎣 Building the Bag | Leg 5 – Maguga Dam

As the day progressed during Leg 5 of the Lowveld Bass Trail at Maguga Dam, we managed to find a steady number of fish in the 500–800g range.

Although it kept us in the game, we knew it wouldn’t be enough if we wanted to stay competitive against the strong field.

Later in the day, I managed to get back into my “Senko groove” — and that changed things for us. A couple of solid 1kg upgrades helped improve our bag and gave us a much better chance heading into weigh-in.

That’s tournament fishing… constantly adjusting, trusting your confidence bait and trying to make the right moves when it matters most.

🎣 A Strong Start | Leg 5 – Maguga Dam

Going into Leg 5 of the Lowveld Bass Trail at Maguga Dam, we had an idea of where we wanted to start — and thankfully it paid off early.

Not long after getting going, Ian landed a solid 1.7kg bass, giving us exactly the kind of head start we were hoping for on competition day.

Getting an early quality fish always settles the nerves and gives confidence as the day unfolds, especially on a dam as challenging and unpredictable as Maguga.

Now it was about building on that momentum and trying to put together a competitive 5-fish bag. 🎣

🎣 Lowveld Bass Trail – Leg 4 Recap | 2026

Leg 4 of the 2026 Lowveld Bass Trail took us to Vygeboom Dam, and it turned into a strong result for Team Bass Hunter.

We managed a full 5-fish bag weighing 4.105kg, with our biggest bass coming in at 1.22kg.

That was enough to secure us 2nd place out of 27 boats, earning 99 Grand Prix points on the day.

After four legs, we now sit 6th overall on the log with 367 points, keeping us well in the race as the season progresses.

A solid turnaround after a tough Leg 3, and a good reminder of how important consistency is with only the best 6 of 8 results counting toward qualification for the Finals — and ultimately a shot at the Super Finals (TTT Nationals).

We are extremely grateful for all the support we continue to receive, and thankful to be able to enjoy and compete in such an incredible sport. 🎣
