This week we get to know Henda Dreyer, a fantastic ambassador for both Louis Trichardt Bowls Club and the sport itself!

šŸ† Years at the club: 1–3 years
šŸŽ³ Favourite position: Lead

Henda’s bowls journey started in the Business League, where she first got a taste of the game—and it didn’t take long before she was hooked!

One of her favourite memories so far was competing in the Limpopo Mixed Pairs Qualifier in Tzaneen alongside Hendre, proving that some of the best memories in bowls come from teamwork and shared experiences.

What Henda enjoys most about the club is the friendliness of the members—a big reason why our club continues to feel like a second home to so many.

šŸŽÆ Meet Our Members

This week we get to know Schalk Senekal, the youngest member of Louis Trichardt Bowls Club—and proof that bowls is a sport for all ages!

šŸ† Years at the club: 1–3 years
šŸŽ³ Favourite position: Lead

Schalk’s bowls journey started thanks to his father, who introduced him to the sport. Since then, he has quietly grown into a valued member of the club and someone who should definitely not be underestimated on the green!

One of his favourite memories so far was playing in his very first competition—and winning it šŸ‘ A pretty good way to start!

What Schalk enjoys most about the club is the kindness between members and the way everyone treats each other with respect and friendliness. It’s that welcoming atmosphere that makes the club feel special.

Although he may be one of the quieter personalities around the club, Schalk is known for being incredibly kind, compassionate, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Calm and humble, he lets his bowls do the talking šŸŽÆ

šŸŽ® Fun fact: When he’s not on the green, Schalk enjoys story-driven games—if it has a great storyline, he’s interested!

šŸ’¬ His advice to new players:
ā€œIt’s not expensive to play at all and it’s good for your health.ā€

At just 17 , Schalk is helping show that bowls isn’t only for one generation—it’s a sport where everyone can belong.

Be sure to say hi to Schalk next time you’re at the club… just don’t mistake quiet for easy competition šŸ˜„

šŸŽÆ Meet Our Members

This week we get to know Dou Breed, one of the club’s calm and friendly faces who proves that bowls is just as much about people as it is about the game!

šŸ† Years at the club: 1–3 years
šŸŽ³ Favourite position: Just happy to play šŸ˜„

Dou’s bowls journey started when a colleague invited him to roll a few bowls and enjoy a drink after work one Friday. A couple of weeks later, they did it again—and before long, the great atmosphere and friendly company had him joining Saturday social games regularly.

What Dou enjoys most about the club is the welcoming atmosphere and the people who make it special. He appreciates how experienced players are always willing to help newer bowlers improve, and believes the wide mix of personalities means there’s someone for everyone in the bowls family.

While Dou may not chase the competitive side of the sport, he’s a fantastic bowler in his own right and always brings a calm, positive presence to the green. He’s also always willing to lend a helping hand when needed šŸ‘

🌿 Fun fact: Whatever you do… don’t ask Dou about the Kruger National Park unless you have plenty of time available šŸ˜„ He’s passionate about it and will happily talk your ear off—you’ve officially been warned!

šŸ’¬ His advice to new players:
ā€œJoin us on a Saturday at 13:30 for some relaxed social fun—you’ll be glad you came! Don’t miss out like I almost did!ā€

If you’re looking for a welcoming atmosphere, good people, and a relaxed afternoon on the green, Dou is proof that bowls has something for everyone.

šŸŽÆ Meet Our Members

This week we get to know NJ Oosthuizen, one of the passionate drivers behind the growth and energy at Louis Trichardt Bowls Club!

šŸ† Years at the club: 3–10 years
šŸŽ³ Favourite position: Skip

NJ’s bowls journey started when friends invited him to play in a night series league—and what started as a social game quickly turned into a passion for the sport.

Over the years, he has built some fantastic memories on the green, including winning the Under 45 Sharpshooters Tournament in Gauteng, achieving 3rd place at Champion of Champions, and earning selection for the Limpopo Under 35 team šŸ‘

Away from playing, NJ is heavily involved in the sport behind the scenes. He serves as President of Louis Trichardt Bowls Club, Treasurer of the Limpopo Bowling Association, and Competition Secretary for the Impala Sub-District, helping ensure the game continues to grow and competitions run smoothly.

What he enjoys most about the club is simple: having fun with friends on the green and enjoying the atmosphere that bowls brings.

šŸ˜„ Fun fact: NJ says he once got bitten by a goat… and apparently only two people know the full story! We’re not sure if we should ask questions or just leave the mystery alive šŸ‘€šŸ

šŸ’¬ His advice to new players:
ā€œJust do it—you won’t regret it. It is the best sport on the planet!ā€

Whether he’s skipping a side, organising competitions, or helping grow bowls in Limpopo, NJ brings plenty of passion and energy to the game.

šŸ† **Years at the club:** 1–3 years
šŸŽ³ **Favourite position:** Third

Martin first started out playing bowls casually during night series games, but before long the sport—and the people around it—pulled him in properly.

What Martin enjoys most about the club is the *samesyn* and the wide variety of personalities that make the club such a special place. There’s always someone to chat to, laugh with, or share a drink alongside šŸ˜„

šŸŽµ **Fun fact:** Martin says he can’t live without music—and anyone who has attended one of our social events knows he’s always ready to step in behind the DJ table and keep the vibe going!

This week we get to know Larissa Oosthuizen, a fierce competitor on the green and a big personality off it!

šŸ† Years at the club: 3–10 years
šŸŽ³ Favourite position: Just happy to play šŸ˜„

Larissa jokes that she got into bowls because ā€œmy husband made meā€ā€”but it didn’t take long for her to make a serious name for herself in the sport!

Her list of achievements speaks for itself: multiple podium finishes at the Limpopo U/35 Singles over three years, a podium position at the Limpopo Champion of Champions, and an invitation to the Limpopo Masters. She also mentions that the U/35 Interdistricts is always a highlight—full of great competition and even better memories šŸ‘

Off the green, Larissa plays a key role in the club as Treasurer and also manages the bar’s finances, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. On top of that, she is the current Ladies Club Singles Champion—a fantastic achievement!

What she enjoys most about the club? ā€œDie kuiers en goeie vriendeā€ā€”the social side and the friendships that come with it.

šŸ˜„ Fun fact: In another life, Larissa reckons she’d be a motocross/FMX rider or even a horse racing jockey—so clearly speed and adrenaline are in her blood!

🄃 And one thing’s for sure… she’s never shy when it comes to a celebratory shot of tequila!

Next time you see Larissa at the club, be sure to say hi—whether it’s on the green or at the bar, you’re guaranteed good company and great energy.

šŸŽ–ļø Honouring Our Members

This week, we proudly recognise Carel Volschenk, a true stalwart and respected figure of Louis Trichardt Bowls Club.

šŸ† Years of service: Nearly 30 years
šŸŽ³ Playing since: 1989

Carel’s journey in bowls began after a serious knee injury brought an end to his rugby career. In 1989, he stepped onto the green—and what followed has been a remarkable and enduring contribution to the sport and our club.

Since joining Louis Trichardt Bowls Club in the late 1990s, Carel has achieved exceptional success, claiming numerous club championships over the years. Beyond his achievements on the green, he has dedicated much of his time to serving on the club committee, playing a vital role in the growth and continuity of the club.

His knowledge of the game, built over decades, is invaluable—freely shared with fellow members and especially appreciated by newer players finding their feet in the sport.

Among his many memorable moments, Carel highlights the joy of competing alongside family, including a proud third-place finish in a tournament, as well as representing the province with his eldest son in the Spec Savers Pro 10.

What stands out most to him is the spirit of the club:
ā€œDat almal mekaar ondersteun en aanmoedig, dit voel soos een groot familie.ā€

His advice to new players reflects both humility and wisdom:
ā€œMoenie kyk hoe goed iemand speel nie… almal het eendag daar gestaan onseker. Byt vas en geniet dit.ā€

Carel Volschenk is more than just a player—he is a pillar of our club, a mentor to many, and a true ambassador of the game. His legacy continues to shape the culture and spirit of Louis Trichardt Bowls Club.

We thank you, Carel, for your years of dedication and contribution šŸ‘
