The Norwegian forward, one of the marquee arrivals in the current transfer window, was handed his debut as a 65th-minute substitute and immediately showed glimpses of the technical ability that prompted the Soweto giants to secure his signature.

Speaking to the media after the final whistle, head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou expressed his satisfaction with how the newcomer integrated into the team's tactical framework.

β€œI think he came with a lot of [desire] to score if he got a chance to open his goal-scoring account, he joined the fighting spirit of our team.

"You can see really that he’s clever,” Ouaddou told reporters.

β€œHe’s clever in the game, he’s going in the space that we want to find him. He’s able to find the deep. We’re able to find him in the pocket. His technique quality is very interesting. I’m sure that he’s going to really help the team."

Despite the positive tactical assessment, Ouaddou was honest about the work that remains to be done regarding Pedersen's physical condition.

Ouaddou explained that the coaching staff is currently implementing a tailored program to ensure the new signing can sustain his impact over a full 90 minutes.

β€œYou need to be ready physically. We can see today that after 15 minutes, he was short physically.

"We are keeping working with him in order to bring him to the high level of the fitness that I want for my game model.

β€œActually, he still needs to increase the physical work in order to be able to shine and to show his quality because he has quality,” Ouaddou concluded.

Marksman Yanela Mbuthuma has been at the receiving end of severe backlash from Buccaneers supporters for failing to convert key opportunities in front of goal.

Despite his current lack of goal contributions, Ouaddou said the club is focused on his developmental arc and overall team contribution.

Mbuthuma last scored a competitive goal for the Sea Robbers on 18 April 2026, during a Premiership fixture against AmaZulu FC.

"So we cannot take out the good things that he does that are important for our team, even though at the end of the season we are looking at stats, data, and the number of goals.

"There are two thoughts: you take out the boy and put him on the side, and you bring him later in the game; maybe he can have some confidence, but nobody can predict; maybe you can kill his confidence.

"So we have chosen not only me; we are a team that is together at Pirates. The thought doesn’t come only from me. We are working as a collective, and we decided to keep the trust in him. If he wasn’t doing well in the game and wasn’t scoring, maybe we could decide to let him down.

β€œI told him that in the proper game, he’s doing well, and now I’m expecting the goals. So I wanted to be clear about that, and I hope people are not going to interpret what I’m saying wrong.

"He’s a Pirates player; we have a project, and we know that sometimes players can have some difficult moments. We are here to support them; they are our players.

"We don’t have a choice but to help these players; they are South Africans and young talent of the country, so I cannot kill a talent. In my career as a coach, I cannot kill a talent. I need to keep on believing in him."

Orlando Pirates are now structuring their tactical adjustments ahead of their highly anticipated MTN8 semifinal first-leg clash against Sekhukhune United.

Jordaan says although he expects Sundowns to dominate Golden Arrows in the semi-final, the first leg of which is at Lucas Moripe on Sunday, their chances of winning this season's MTN8 remain slim as long as Pirates are still competing.

Abdeslam Ouaddou’s troops facing Sekhukhune United in the other semi-final at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

"As much as Sundowns are the only team in the semi-final that can stop Pirates from winning their fifth MTN8 cup in a row, I still think Pirates will win again this season," Jordaan tells KickOff.

"Last season, it was the same thing; people thought Sundowns would be a stumbling block for Pirates, but Pirates surprised us all.

"From the first leg, I think Sundowns will be too strong for Golden Arrows. Looking at their start, Arrows have played three draws in their first three league matches this season.

"So, they are not scoring goals.

β€œSundowns will be too strong. Sundowns have one or two injuries and one or two players who don't want to be there anymore, but due to their experience, I think they will win.

"If I were the Sundowns coach, I would go all out in the first leg, try to win 3-0, and then make a few changes in the second leg. Rest some players since some have just come back from the World Cup," adds the erstwhile centre-back.

Both semi-finals kick off at 15:00.

Former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has urged patience over what he believes is a long-overdue Bafana Bafana call-up for a current Bucs star.

Speaking at the official Betway Clubhouse launch this week, the iconic former Sea Robbers skipper could not hide his admiration for defender Lebone Seema.

Lekgwathi, who holds legendary status at Mayfair after an illustrious 14-year playing career with Pirates, believes it’s high time the 23-year-old received what would be his first call-up to the national team.

"From last season, he is defined as the best of the season; he must lead by example and show it was not a fluke," Lekgwathi told journalists.

"I'm so proud of the boy; every day he is improving."

"His combination with [Nkosinathi] Sibisi, and the whole defence, is working. For me, I think they must complete all the defenders."

"For me, I think he deserves a call-up for Bafana, not only now; even last season he showed. Looking at last season, he showed."

"He must just be patient; his time will come because some things we don’t need to rush. You have to have patience."

"When that chance comes, he must just grab it with both hands."

"He is a top defender."

While Seema did not receive a call-up under Hugo Broos, his fortunes may change with a new head coach set to guide Bafana through the World Cup qualifiers.

Pirates have won the MTN8 for a record-extending fourth time and speaking ahead of their semi-final first-leg against Sekhukhune United on Saturday afternoon at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Ouaddou said that they would not be complacent, as excitement comes from not knowing who is going to win a title.

"It's one of the intrinsic motivations, when you know that you've been chased and everybody wants to get you," Ouaddou told Journalists at a press conference held at the MTN8 headquarters in Randburg.

"I think first and for all it's good for us but more than that what brings interest in the league is not to know who is going to win the league at the beginning of the season and it is what brings people to the stadium and for people to watch on TV.

"But if you come and you know who is the champion, it does not make sense, that's why I said to the guys last season, it's not easy, because people think I was arrogant," Ouaddou said.

The French-Moroccan coach went on and vowed that sometimes you need to be brave to become successful, as he felt vindicated by vowing to make Pirates win the league for the first time since 2012 when he arrived at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.

"The first training (session) I had with them in Spain I told them, 'Hey, this season we need to win the league!' You know many coaches come here, they are cautious, they say, 'Ja but I need players, I need time' but you need sometimes," Ouaddou said.

"Excuse me for using these words but sometimes you need balls to say, 'Ja, I want to win the league'. And this season again we want to win the league, it won't be easy, I'm not saying we're going to win it but we're doing everything to win it.

"And we're doing everything to win the (CAF) Champions League. You know if you come here, play small and protect yourself, what are you going to protect anyway? If you lose two or four games you go out," the former Marumo Gallants head coach added.
