On a very cold Saturday 20 June 2026, 201 people turned up to celebrate our event #300 with us. 🎉 34 first timers braved our mountain and everyone conquered it. 🎯🏆 17 dedicated, wonderful volunteers helped make the event possible and a success! 🤩. Thank you to everyone involved + Braam Bothma and his team at Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge!

Celebrating youth today!

Youth Day reminds us that young people are not only the future of our communities – they are actively shaping them today.

Across South Africa, young people are stepping up at parkrun events as marshals, barcode scanners, timekeepers and volunteers. Every Saturday morning, they give their time, energy and enthusiasm to help create safe, welcoming events where people of all ages can come together to walk, jog, run, volunteer and connect.

Their contribution goes far beyond filling a volunteer role. They are building confidence, developing leadership skills, forming friendships and making a positive impact in their local communities. Each high-five, encouraging word and scanned barcode helps create the parkrun experience that thousands enjoy every week.

This Youth Day, we celebrate the young people who are helping parkrun communities grow, one Saturday at a time. Thank you for your passion, your commitment and the difference you make. 💚

Give it a go! 😃

Volunteering at parkrun = friends + fresh air + feel-good energy.

This Youth Day, let's celebrate the young people who make parkrun happen every week.

Young people at parkrun aren't just walking, jogging, and running the course. Many are volunteering too — marshalling, barcode scanning, handing out finish tokens, setting up events, and helping to grow parkrun in their own communities.

Volunteering is a chance to meet new people, build confidence, learn valuable skills, and be part of something bigger than yourself. It turns a Saturday morning into an opportunity to connect, contribute, and make a difference.

You don't need special experience or athletic ability. All you need is a willingness to help and a smile to share. In return, you'll gain friendships, fresh air, community spirit, and that unbeatable feel-good energy that comes from helping others.

This Youth Day, why not give volunteering a go? You might discover that some of the best parkrun memories are made in a hi-vis vest.
