🏉 TITANS RUGBY ACADEMY – MORE THAN 2 DECADES OF BUILDING CHAMPIONS 🏉

From humble beginnings to producing some of South Africa’s finest rugby talent, Titans Rugby Academy’s player pathway continues to be a story of passion, perseverance and purpose.

Over the past 21 years, Titans has helped transform dreams into reality. From our first Springbok, Mathrin Simmers - , who went on to become South Africa’s most decorated Springbok Sevens player of all time, to Siphenathi Yeko, a proud product of White Location, Knysna, who recently lifted the Africa Cup and made her Springbok debut, the journey has been nothing short of inspirational.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that it was built with little to no external financial support. For more than two decades, fundraising initiatives and the personal sacrifices and financial commitment of Coach Ash have kept the dream alive, creating opportunities for talented young players who otherwise may never have had a pathway to elite rugby.

Today, Titans Rugby Academy stands as proof that dedication, community spirit and unwavering belief can overcome any obstacle.

21 Years. Countless Lives Changed. Multiple Springboks Produced. One Legacy.

Rooted in Discipline. Driven by Passion. Built to Win.

🏉💙 CONGRATULATIONS MATHRIN SIMMER! 💙🏉

From co-founding Titans Rugby Academy in April 2005 to becoming one of South Africa’s most respected rugby figures, Mathrin Simmer continues to break barriers and inspire generations.

A Co-Founder of Titans Rugby Academy and Titans Captain from 2009 to 2012, Mathrin played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for what has become one of the country’s leading rugby development programmes.

Her remarkable playing career saw her make her Springbok Women’s XV debut in June 2012, followed by her Springbok Women’s Sevens debut in October 2013. She would go on to retire as the most decorated Springbok Women’s Sevens player of all time, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, leadership, and resilience.

Today, we proudly celebrate her appointment as Development Coach for the Junior Springbok Women’s Team — another significant milestone in a journey dedicated to growing and advancing women’s rugby in South Africa.

Your success is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and a lifelong commitment to the game. Thank you for continuing to inspire young players and coaches across the country.

Congratulations, Mathrin! The Titans family is incredibly proud of you. 🇿🇦🏉

MAIN FIXURE HIGHLIGHT

Titans Rugby Academy 53 - 17 Tigers Rugby Academy Queens

The defending SWD Rugby and Betway National Champions, Titans Rugby Academy, produced another dominant display as they overcame a determined Tigers Rugby Academy Queens outfit 53-17 in a thrilling SWD Women’s Club League encounter at the Albertinia Festival.

The match started at a frantic pace with both sides showing attacking intent. Titans opened the scoring after sustained pressure close to the Tigers try line. A certain try was denied through cynical infringement when Yanga was dislodged of the ball while grounding it, resulting in a penalty try being awarded to Titans. Shortly after the restart, tensions boiled over with a red card shown to a player from each side following an incident near midfield.

Titans extended their lead through a brilliant team effort. A crucial turnover won by Yanga created attacking opportunities before Anita burst through for a magnificent 40-metre try. Swarts added the conversion to give Titans further momentum.

Tigers responded strongly from a short kick-off. A free kick allowed them to gain field position, and despite brave defensive efforts from Prelene and Yanga, the Tigers wing found space out wide to score. The conversion drifted wide, but the visitors had found their rhythm.

Titans struck back almost immediately. Following an excellent 22-metre kick-off regain by Jody Rademeyer, the pressure forced a penalty. Quick ball movement and excellent width in attack allowed 21-year-old scrumhalf Deone Ruiters to cross under the posts. Swarts converted, restoring Titans’ advantage.

Tigers refused to go away and scored again after a dangerous line break from Mia, with Hannies providing the final pass for their wing to finish in the corner.

The match remained evenly contested as Tigers added a third try after Titans conceded a penalty from a kick-off reception. Quick tap ball and multiple phases eventually saw Hannies cross the line before converting her own try.

At halftime the contest was finely balanced with Titans leading 21-17.

TITANS TAKE CONTROL

The second half belonged entirely to the Titans.

Receiving the kick-off, Titans immediately laid down a marker. Strong scrummaging from the new front row combination of Zimasa, Kiki and Buhle earned a penalty. From the resulting quick tap, playmaker Siviswe “Mavesta” Basweni sliced through the defence and raced 80 metres to score one of the tries of the day. Although the conversion was missed, Titans had stretched their lead.

Moments later another kick-off regain involving Mavesta and Lolly nearly resulted in Jody Rademeyer scoring, but a slight knock-on saved Tigers from further punishment.

The Titans coaching staff then made a tactical adjustment, sending Anita, Yanga and Prelene back into the defensive scrum battle five metres from the Tigers line. The sheer power generated by the Titans pack almost produced another score, but Tigers survived through an early engagement penalty.

The pressure eventually told.

A breakdown turnover penalty won by Marlene sparked another attacking opportunity. Powerful carries from Yanga, Anita and Prelene marched Titans deep into opposition territory. With Tigers struggling to contain the momentum, Anita powered over for her second try of the afternoon. Mavesta converted to push the lead further out.

The sixth Titans try demonstrated the character and work ethic that has become synonymous with the Academy. Although a poor kick-off handed Tigers possession, captain Prelene produced a crucial breakdown turnover before carrying strongly for over 20 metres. Mavesta then broke the line and linked with Anita, who stormed nearly 50 metres upfield. An offload to Yanga narrowly went astray, denying what looked a certain try.

However, the Titans scrum took over once more. A dominant shove forced Tigers onto the back foot and when the ball squirted loose, alert scrumhalf Deone Ruiters reacted quickest to dive over for her second try of the match.

With Tigers tiring and Titans growing stronger, the champions finished the contest emphatically. Late tries from Jody Rademeyer and Treidine Solomons capped a superb team performance and sealed a convincing 53-17 victory.

OTHER SENIOR RESULT

Earlier in the day Titans Rugby Academy faced Harlequins in another league fixture.

Harlequins, who have endured a difficult season following the loss of several players due to military deployment commitments, battled bravely but were overwhelmed by a clinical Titans side.

The defending champions ran in points at will and established a commanding lead. Six minutes into the second half, Harlequins requested that the match be called off due to a growing injury toll and insufficient available players to continue safely.

Final Score
🏉 Titans Rugby Academy 64-0 Harlequins
