Spectators, family, and friends have the chance to join the FBTR experience.

On the 2nd of July @ 9:30 am a Ferry departing from the Cruise Cafe will take them across the Knysna lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve where they will be able to welcome all the athletes through the finish line and join the scrumptious Brunch @ the FB Restaurant where the prizegiving ceremony and lucky draws will take place around 12:00 pm
Return Ferries to Cruise Cafe every hour from 10:30 am

Please notice: The only access to Featherbed Nature reserve / Finish line is via taking part in the race or via spectator experience tickets.

The 11km Seahorse Route is the shorter but by no means lesser of the two Trail Run distances on offer. The route starts at the west side of the Outeniqua Choo Choo railway bridge and snakes above the quaint little village of Brenton on Lake to gain the crest of the ridge. This ridge is loosely followed by a trail, delicately woven into the fynbos and ultimately leading onto the breath-taking vistas of the Western Heads. Deft footwork will unlock the intriguing last kilometers down to the sea-level contour trail, over the footbridges, and through a tunnel to reach the finish line at the Featherbed Nature Reserve Restaurant.

The Otter trail’s difficulty isn’t just a story for tired feet to tell, because when it’s all said and done, it’s the heart of the runners that step forth to say – “Here’s where it all began.”

The latest issue of TRAIL magazine delves into the magnificently emotional stories of two women, who by running the Otter in 2021, honoured their loved ones with not just enduring stamina, but an enduring heart which is comforted by the variations of black and white granite which sprint with the runners from the beginning of the trail to its end, reminding them of its ancient geological environment.

We’ve decided that seeing you once a year at the event isn’t enough - and have come up with the concept of *FREE Otter Community Runs.

We are going to be hosting four *FREE Otter Community Run’s in and around Cape Town, Durban, Joburg & the Garden Route.

Durban will be hosted by Trail Magazine Editor Deon Braun at Giba Gorge. Joburg will be hosted by elite runner’s Ryno Griesel, Thabang Madiba, Nicolette Griffioen and Pierre Jordaan at Wolwespruit Trail Park. Cape Town will be hosted by Landie and Christiaan Greyling at Franschhoek Cellar and the Garden Route will be hosted by none other than Race Director’s and the brothers behind the Otter, Mark and John Collins at Fisherman’s Trail, Pezula in Knysna.

The concept is simple - sign up (link in bio) for the Otter Community Run closest to you, join us on the day, absorb a few pro tips from special guests, enjoy a cruisy run and end the morning off with a cold Lite beer or refreshing juice. Yes?

If you join any of the runs, you’ll also take home a scrumptious sample of ButtaNutt nut butter and a pack of KTTape, as well as stand a chance to win one of our awesome lucky draw prizes on the day. Lucky draw prizes per Community Run include:
