Semi-finals… here we come!
Someone once said that the Knysna Cavaliers Cricket Club are just lucky. Well, if that’s the case, we’ll happily keep making our own luck.

Knysna Cavaliers took on George Cricket Club in a must-win encounter, and what a day of cricket it turned out to be.

George won the toss and elected to bowl first, and they made an immediate statement by striking with the very first ball of the innings.

But the Cavaliers showed great composure and grit to steady the ship. Through patience and determination, we managed to grind our way to a competitive total of 195 on the board.

There were some fantastic contributions with the bat:
Jonathan Bester leading the charge with a superb 59
Todd Walker showing his experience with a valuable 34
Mesuli Messy adding an important 32

However, the job was only half done. To secure our spot in the semi-finals, we needed not only to win, but to do so with a bonus point, meaning George had to be restricted to 156 or less.

The bowlers answered the call in spectacular fashion.
George CC were eventually bowled out for 123, thanks to an exceptional all-round bowling performance:

Mesuli Vuba: 5 overs, 9 runs, 2 wickets
Francois Bonthuys: 10 overs, 21 runs, 1 wicket
Justin Meyer : 5 overs, 17 runs, 2 wickets – what a talent!

But the day truly belonged to our skipper, Hayden Sweet , who led from the front with an outstanding spell of 8.4 overs, 34 runs, and 5 wickets.

An incredible team effort and a performance full of character.

Tough weekend for Knysna Cavaliers Cricket Club .

Our 1st team hosted Union Stars Cricket Club at home in what promised to be a very competitive encounter and it certainly lived up to expectations.

After winning the toss, we elected to bat first on what looked like a very good wicket. Credit must go to Union Stars’ young bowling attack, who delivered a disciplined and well-executed bowling masterclass. They applied pressure from the start, stuck to their lines and lengths, and made scoring difficult throughout the innings.

We were eventually restricted to 115.
Top contributions with the bat:
JP Ellis – 30
Quinton Visagie – 24
Mesuli Messy – 14

Defending a low total like that was never going to be easy, but the character and fight shown in the field was commendable. The boys gave it everything and kept pushing until the very end.

Union Stars reached the target in the 37th over with four wickets in hand, but there were some outstanding bowling performances worth mentioning:

Mondli Ngobese : 7 overs, 1 maiden, 46 runs, 2 wickets
Justin Meyer : 6 overs, 22 runs, 1 wicket
Mesuli Vuba: 4 overs, 1 maiden, 11 runs, 2 wickets
Ab van der Walt : 5.5 overs, 2 maidens, 7 runs

And yet another unbelievable spell from the legend himself,
Francois Bonthuys: 10 overs, 8 maidens, 7 runs, 2 wickets , a display of pure control and experience.

Although the result did not go our way, there are important lessons to take from this match. We remain united, focused, and determined to bounce back stronger.

This coming weekend we take on Pacaltsdorp Cricket Club in a must-win encounter. The belief in this group remains strong and we will be ready. 💚🏏
