Man !! What a year its been. Our final athlete of the month has been at it for a while. Through peaks and valleys. Ups and downs as we all do. But she's been consistently working at it.

All we ask is that each person comes in on that day and gives the best that they can for that day. 1% percent adds up eventually over time the more you come in and commit.

Nicolene van Loggerenberg is our athlete of the month. 11kgs down since the winter challenge and still keeping it off shows her commitment to the plane and trusting the process. But training here is more than physical change its mental change too.

Well done Nicolene ! Keep smashing away it!

How did you discover CrossFit?

There was a free trial at one of the local boxes and a friend and I tried it out and I was hooked.

What were you doing sport/exercise wise before CrossFit?

Occasional walking/running and cycling, but never as committed to any form of sport. Did a few half marathons.

How long have you been training at CrossFit CX for?

Since the opening😁

Favourite CrossFit exercise?

Anything assault bike or weightlifting.

Most disliked CrossFit exercise

Bear crawls/ walks!!!

What changes in your health, physique, performance and mental wellbeing have you noticed since starting CrossFit?

After I started to commit entirely I feel more energetic and dont need my frequent mid morning snooze in my car on the back seat. Since the winter challenge I learned how to deal with my emotions and not eat them, this has contributed to being mentally stronger. * Little guilty pleasures are now sniffing my son's ice cream*.

What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?

I have used all the excuses under the sun why I can't train and be a better me,but none of that is ever valid and you owe it to yourself to at least try.

What is one word that people often use to describe you?

I strive to be known as a kind person, so hopefully kind.

What is something we would be surprised to know about you?

I was born and raised in Knysna, but not like a "vlei rot" more like a "boskokkerot".
And I am still eating the same as during the winter challenge.

Favourite activity outside of CrossFit?

I love being creative and being in my own space at home.

Favourite place to eat a Paleo-ish meal?

Home.

What are 2 things you will always find in your fridge?

Anything but Kurt Darren's Spinnekop🤣 at the moment.

The last thing you ate?

Lunch of sweet potato with some cream cheese and a chicken breast.

Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?

Doing my first ever three box jumps last week.

Which CrossFit CX member inspires you the most?

I have a few inspirational people I look up to, but one that definitely amazes me.

Meghan even after her accident she just got over it and moved on with the exercise. I work in the medical field and don't often see that type of resilience.

What are your goals for the rest of 2024?

For the remainder of 2024 I would like to enjoy family time and stick to the healthy lifestyle during the Christmas celebrations as this is normally spent around food and drinking. This might sound weird, however in my family the main love language is with food. So with my new venture of eating healthy it causes a lot of unwanted pressure.

Where has this year gone. So many changes all the time. Speaking of changes here is another athlete of the month. And damn was this a huge transformation!

How did you discover CrossFit?
I found myself at a crossfit box doing HIIT, and I was pretty intimidated by all the bars and heavy weights. Then, after a year of not exercising, I heard about a new CrossFit box opening up on Thesen, and I thought, 'Why not give it a shot?' So I jumped in, and it's been quite the adventure since!

What changes in your health, physique, performance and mental wellbeing have you noticed since starting CrossFit?
I pretty much always look forward to Mondays to get back to CrossFit.
When I started I had a dodgy knee (old injury), which resulted in me initially stopping running, but now my muscles have strengthened and I’m stronger than I’ve ever been, and although I was once 'super skinny' I feel more confident and stronger than ever!

I can really say we have some of the hardest working members at the box. I wish I could see inside so many of their heads and see what it is that helps them flip that switch from self doubt and then going on to being able to achieve so much more for themselves.

Our September Athlete of the month is a prime example of hard work, drive and a bit of attitude too.

Meet Sonja Oelofse , Associate Attorney (Legal Practitioner) , mom to a baby girl, wife and CrossFitter. Going from pregnant mom ,to dealing with a little bit of baby blues to finding us at CrossFit CX…constantly arguing with Shane about doing abs , wanting to go for a run instead of the strength portion that was programmed and so many more ducking and diving stories of trying to get things done her way. Thank goodness the Coach is a hard arse and never caved.

Slowly , slowly Sonja started seeing changes and when those changes started she put her foot on the gas and has been all go since.

Lets see what makes this super-mom tick.

Man, can you believe how this year is flying past? Few more weeks and then we’re into the CrossFit Open 2024.

Time has been flying past so fast we haven’t even had chance to announce our February Athlete of the month!?

So without further ado…

Our February Athlete of the month is….

(Insert Drum roll here)….

(Still drum rolling….)

Samantha Viljoen!!

Sam had the pleasure of doing her first session and also the last session at our old premises…unfortunately her session walked her smack bang into a huge burpee wod. Which she tackled head on that day!

And even after being thrown in the deep-end she was hooked. Keeping in mind the Sam also joined us after giving birth to a beautiful baby girl Hallie (that’s Sally pronounced with an H and not Haley like I often call the poor child) Sam was only 3 months postpartum…and looking at her now you would even think she had a baby 7 months ago!

But let’s deep dive here with our rapid questions and get to know Sam a bit more!
