Man !! What a year its been. Our final athlete of the month has been at it for a while. Through peaks and valleys. Ups and downs as we all do. But she's been consistently working at it.
All we ask is that each person comes in on that day and gives the best that they can for that day. 1% percent adds up eventually over time the more you come in and commit.
Nicolene van Loggerenberg is our athlete of the month. 11kgs down since the winter challenge and still keeping it off shows her commitment to the plane and trusting the process. But training here is more than physical change its mental change too.
Well done Nicolene ! Keep smashing away it!
How did you discover CrossFit?
There was a free trial at one of the local boxes and a friend and I tried it out and I was hooked.
What were you doing sport/exercise wise before CrossFit?
Occasional walking/running and cycling, but never as committed to any form of sport. Did a few half marathons.
How long have you been training at CrossFit CX for?
Since the openingš
Favourite CrossFit exercise?
Anything assault bike or weightlifting.
Most disliked CrossFit exercise
Bear crawls/ walks!!!
What changes in your health, physique, performance and mental wellbeing have you noticed since starting CrossFit?
After I started to commit entirely I feel more energetic and dont need my frequent mid morning snooze in my car on the back seat. Since the winter challenge I learned how to deal with my emotions and not eat them, this has contributed to being mentally stronger. * Little guilty pleasures are now sniffing my son's ice cream*.
What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
I have used all the excuses under the sun why I can't train and be a better me,but none of that is ever valid and you owe it to yourself to at least try.
What is one word that people often use to describe you?
I strive to be known as a kind person, so hopefully kind.
What is something we would be surprised to know about you?
I was born and raised in Knysna, but not like a "vlei rot" more like a "boskokkerot".
And I am still eating the same as during the winter challenge.
Favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
I love being creative and being in my own space at home.
Favourite place to eat a Paleo-ish meal?
Home.
What are 2 things you will always find in your fridge?
Red apples and cheddar cheese.
The song that gets you pumped up for a workout:
Anything but Kurt Darren's Spinnekop𤣠at the moment.
The last thing you ate?
Lunch of sweet potato with some cream cheese and a chicken breast.
Proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
Doing my first ever three box jumps last week.
Which CrossFit CX member inspires you the most?
I have a few inspirational people I look up to, but one that definitely amazes me.
Meghan even after her accident she just got over it and moved on with the exercise. I work in the medical field and don't often see that type of resilience.
What are your goals for the rest of 2024?
For the remainder of 2024 I would like to enjoy family time and stick to the healthy lifestyle during the Christmas celebrations as this is normally spent around food and drinking. This might sound weird, however in my family the main love language is with food. So with my new venture of eating healthy it causes a lot of unwanted pressure.
