Track-to-Trail

Track-to-Trail The defunct rail from Knysna to George needs to be converted to trail for hikers, runners and cyclists.

The railway line fell into disuse after floods collapsed the embankment onto the tracks at Wilderness in 2006.

"They" are at it again.

Excuse my pessimism, but we have been hearing this same story since June 2016 at least.

Where is a reputable source for this information? An official link to a Classic Rail website (I googled, couldn't find one)? Alan McVitty on LinkedIn - or anywhere else (found an account, but no mention of this project)? Confirmation from PRASA?Transnet? News articles/reports from reputable sources? None.

Google Alan McVitty, CEO of Classic Rail and Outeniqua Choo Tjoe" and see for yourself.

Who is "Classic Rail"? I am trying to find a website or some kind of evidence of who they are and what they do...

Again, Google "Alan McVitty CEO of Classic Rail" to see more false promises and no substance...

Please watch this site for news about Classic Railsโ€™s project to return steam trains to South Africa's Garden Route.

If I am not mistaken, this picture features the Choi-Choo at the exact section where the landslide took place.

The beautiful Outeniqua Choo Tjoe. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿš‚

The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe was the last remaining continually-operated passenger steam train in Africa, ending operation in August, 2006. The line on which it operated links the towns of George and Knysna in the Western Cape, South Africa, and was completed in 1928.

The scenic 67-kilometer (42 mi) route from George took 3 hours, following the rugged coastline of the Garden Route, and passing through Victoria Bay, Wilderness, Goukamma, and Sedgefield before crossing a bridge over the Knysna Lagoon and ending at the Knysna station.

During August 2006 the line was damaged by heavy flooding, and train services were suspended. In November 2006 the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe was temporarily rerouted to run between George and Mossel Bay (with a stop at Hartenbos). This service was discontinued on 17 September, 2010.

We wish the steam trains were still running! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿš‚

It would appear that certain parties (Choo-Tjoe railway line repairs ) are trying to sway public opinion by perpetuating the myth that some kind of concession has actually been awarded in an attempt to stall bids from other parties to utilise the tracks for hiking/biking trail.

I would love to see a train running on those tracks, however, we have been hearing these rumours for 10 years now.

Lets use the route to the benefit of all and convert it to a trail.
