Butt wink is a common term for losing proper spinal positioning when squatting to depth (in gym terms, โ€œass to grassโ€). Instead of maintaining a neutral or slightly extended lumbar spine, the lifter experiences posterior pelvic tilt and lumbar flexion at the lowest point of their squat.

๐—ช๐—ต๐˜† ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฎ ๐—•๐˜‚๐˜๐˜ ๐—ช๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ธ ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚โ“
The butt wink is considered a dreaded squat movement fault to be avoided at all costs. It is a term used to describe the pelvis tucking underneath at the bottom of the squat. It can create a relative flattening out of the lumbar spine, which is why it has been deemed as generally unsafe. Butt wink during the squat can lead to back injury. It also reduces your power, limiting your ability to lift heavier weights. If you are experiencing butt wink, it's vital that you address the cause and fix the issue.

To assess if the butt wink occurs from a stability issue, perform a body weight squat. Either film or have someone observe 5 reps and note the point at which the butt wink occurs. The next step is to do the same but hold a weight plate out in front.

Motiveringโ“โ›”๐Ÿ’ก

WELKOM aan die nuwe FITSTERS op my bladโ—

Ek wil vandag sommer net gesels oor motiveringโ€ฆ Moenie d**k ek is altyd gemotiveerd nie. Moet nooit d**k iemand wat elke dag oefen en by โ€˜n gesonde eetplan hou, is elke dag gemotiveerd nie.

Ek sukkel ook, ek twyfel in myself, ek d**k party dae om net die handoek in te gooi en op te gee, ek voel soms lus om my workouts te โ€œhalf assโ€ en net te eet wat ek wil. Net soos meeste ander mense het ek moeilike dae, selfs weke! Vir my om fiks te bly is dit net so moeilik soos vir iemand wat gewig wil verloor. My 90kg deadlift is vir my net so moeilik soos jou 30kg deadlift. My cardio sessies is net so lank en vervelig soos joune. My dag tot dag etes en probeer om by my calorie budget te bly is vir my net so moeilik soos vir jou.

Dit is nie maklik vir niemand nie, nooit! En nie een van ons is perfek nie. Al wanneer jy ooit perfek moet wees is as jy aan kompetisies deelneem, en dit is net โ€˜n klein groepie van die populasie. In die daaglikse lewe doen jy wat jy kan, wanneer jy kan met dit wat jy het. Neem net elke dag die beste besluite vir jou doelwitte!
