Sunshine Soccer Club / Inkanyezi Star Soccer Club Inkanyezi means Sunshine in Xhosa. Inkanyezi Star Soccer Club is the name of a football team, a very special one, as its players are grannies over 60.

Inkanyezi Is a Xhosa Soccer Team of grannies . One must be over 60 to get in. Inkanyezi is the Xhosa word for Sunshine. This team of GOGOS (Grannies) has been playing since 2010, when they got inspired and motivated with the World Cup in South Africa. They live in one of the biggest townships around Cape Town, Kaylitcha. They keep organized and training every week, with such an incredible spirit.

Sometimes they have big matches against other GoGO teams, usually against the Eastern Cape Team or another team from a near township : Harare. Inkanyezi Team, asked me, Isabel Pinto, photographer, and Sylvie Cachin, cinematographer, to do and manage this page on their behalf, as they need sponsership at all levels, even for equipment or proper soccer shoes to play. Me and Sylvie have been on the side of the GoGOs for some time, and we are so moved by the joy and inspiration they express every time we are together. We will update with as much information and images as possible and we hope this project can bring light to many older people that think soccer is for young males. Stamina and resilience is something these GOGOS have to share , all of them saying how life quality and health issues have improved ever since they started training . The GOGOS from Inkanyezi thank you in advance for all the help you or your company can give to keep these team alive.

Thank you so much for the support, all of you who already liked the Inkanyezi Star Soccer Club. We started yesterday our page, and in less of 12h we already reached 100likes. It means a lot to us, as it gives us hope that our team will have the means to keep us playing soccer!
