A question I have been asked many times as an Instructor - Why should I be doing Pilates? With the benefits being endless, here are 7 benefits why Pilates is considered the best form of exercise:
1. Pilates is for everyone.
Whether you are an older adult, an elite athlete, performing artist, high school student, office worker or even a stay-at-home mommy, Pilates is important for your body and knows no age limit.
2. Pilates is low impact.
Pilates exercises are done mainly on the floor with no jumping or strainuous movements on the joints and lower back.
3. Pilates improves posture alignment.
Everyone struggles with bad posture at some point. Pilates exercises focuses on correcting the spine alignment and posture correction.
4. Pilates gives strong, lean muscles.
The primary focus of Pilates exercises is to engage the core muscles and strengthen them as much as possible. A strong core guarentees a stronger body overall. Because Pilates doesn't require heavy weights, it shapes long, lean muscles.
5. Pilates increases Lung capacity.
It is very important to use breath when doing Pilates as the muscle function better when yhe body moves along with breathing cues, the deeper you breathe, the better the body moves. Deep breaths equals bigget lung expansion, thus increasing the capacity of lung use. Clients with asthma benefit greatly from this benefit.
6. Pilates improves flexibility.
In Pilates, you work toward a safe increase in length and stretch of the muscles and range of motion within the joints. Having a body that can stretch and bend to meet the flow of life is a realistic and healthy goal.
7. Pilates doesn't require expensive equipment.
While there are studios with big equipment pieces, Pilates can be done in your own home with only a mat and your body!
