🎉 Congratulations to Ethan Higham – Africa’s Youngest FIDE Arbiter (FA)

We’re thrilled to celebrate Ethan Higham on his outstanding achievement as the youngest FIDE Arbiter (FA) on the African continent — a milestone that highlights both his passion and commitment to the game.

Ethan’s chess journey is a story of focus, perseverance, and purpose. Since stepping into the role of arbiter in 2022, he’s demonstrated maturity beyond his years, quickly earning the title of youngest Provincial Arbiter (PA) in South Africa. His growth has been powered by an insatiable curiosity and a drive to master every aspect of the sport.

Off the board, Ethan has made his mark through innovation and service. He played a pivotal role in upgrading the CHESS SA website and contributed to the development of the Arbiters’ and Organisers’ Commission (AOC) website — both key projects that have improved communication and accessibility across the chess community.

Ethan’s story reminds us that leadership isn’t defined by age, but by vision and commitment. His journey inspires young players and arbiters across Africa to dream bigger, work harder, and lead with purpose.

Congratulations, Ethan — your success lights the way for the next generation of African chess leaders.
