RECENT PROGRESS

I’ve made a huge amount of progress with chess in the past few weeks.

I wrote a few books—a play chess guide for absolute beginners, as well as a mate-in-one workbook.

I’ve also recorded several videos and uploaded them to my YouTube channel, and I created the Facebook group Play Chess Beginners Corner.
I'm quite proud of these achievements.

THE MISSING PIECE: A PHYSICAL CHESS CLUB

However, I am still missing the most important piece of the puzzle. I don't have a physical chess club yet where people can sit down and play a game in person.

A club is the foundation for everything else—it connects all these elements because that's where the actual activity.

I've struggled with the club more than other things because with the other things I can do them on my own without talking to anyone else.

Once I start working on something I move at a very fast pace but this club thing requires a lot of back and forth which is really not my style.

NEXT STEPS

Hopefully, I will tackle the club challenge soon. A potential venue exists, so perhaps it’s just a matter of time. I've had initial conversations, though I haven't made much progress since. Fingers crossed for a real breakthrough on that front in the coming weeks or months.

It does complicate things a little that I'm not available during the day until after 1700 hrs. I go to the office.

I will keep trying

I’ve been playing chess for a long time, so I obviously know how the pieces move.

One question I’ve been tackling is: what’s the best way to present this information to an absolute beginner?

How do you teach them without causing overwhelm, and instead pique their curiosity?

How do you inspire them to find out more and pull them into the journey so they’re intrigued and eager to get involved?

Do you present how all the pieces move at once, or focus on one piece at a time and let them digest that before moving on?

Well, you’ll see how I tackle this question—I believe I’ve found a great approach, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

I’ve had to dig deep into my teaching experience: how do I present information to students in a way that made them curious and eager to learn more?

WRITE YOUR STORY
Friends, for a long time, I have been encouraging people to write their own stories.

You don't need to spend thousands to write your story.

AI now makes the process so easy.

Voice in, stories out!

Just 10 minutes a day, and you can capture your story for your children and future generations.

Here is a short book I have put together. If you commit to this process, after a month, you will have 100 pages of your story.

This is not rocket science.

What is 2-Factor Authentication

Here is the definition from Facebook:

Two-factor authentication is a security feature that helps protect your Facebook account and your password. If you set up two-factor authentication, you'll be asked to enter a special login code or confirm your login attempt each time someone tries accessing Facebook from a browser or mobile device that we don't recognise. You can also get alerts when someone tries logging in from a browser or mobile device that we don't recognise.

If you have 2 Factor Authentication setup on your Account, a person can get your password and still not be able to access your account. Because Facebook will not recognise that device from which the login is being made.

How to activate 2 Factor Authentication in your account.

Is it quite easy.

Here is a link: https://www.facebook.com/help/148233965247823

Turn on or manage two-factor authentication
Click on your profile picture in the top right, then click Settings and privacy.
Click Settings.
Click Accounts Centre, then click Password and security.
Click Two-factor authentication, then click on the account that you'd like to update.
Choose the security method that you want to add and follow the on-screen instructions.
When you set up two-factor authentication on Facebook, you'll be asked to choose one of three security methods:
Tapping your security key on a compatible device.
Login codes from a third-party authentication app.
Text message (SMS) codes from your mobile phone.

VERY IMPORTANT:

I recommend setting up 2 Factor authentication on all online accounts.

What tends to happen is that many people use the same password everywhere. This is a not a good practice but people do it. This means if a person loses access to their Facebook, their email may also be compromised.

I hope this is helpful friends.

I recently interviewed John Thole, who is a fellow member of the Africa Lichess Events group on WhatsApp. He is a prolific tournament organiser who has set up over 2,000 tournaments over the years.

I thought it was a short interview but that is at least 7 pages of content from that interview alone.

It's wonderful when you are part of starting something, and that thing grows and flourishes even when you step away or move on to other things.

John has been doing an amazing job. The WhatsApp Lichess Events group has grown from strength to strength. Friends, I can't wait to share the interview with you.

The interview was done in the Telegram group Africa Chess News. One of the great things about conversations on Telegram is you can record the conversation within the App. It was a live interview and people could tune. I love this podcasting function on Telegram

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed interviewing John.
