Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that Brandon Petersen is injured and will be sidelined for around six weeks. The club have also confirmed that Wandile Duba will miss the next two weeks because of an injury.

A frustrating setback for Duba personally. He’s had a really good start to the season 3 goals in 4 league appearances, outperforming his 1.70 xG with 3 goals .

But this is becoming the frustrating part of Duba’s story: when he isn’t searching for consistency, he’s having to deal with availability.

Two weeks isn’t a major layoff in isolation, but for a young player trying to establish himself, every run of games matters. And Duba isn’t the only Chiefs player where availability and consistency have been recurring issues.

It’s not necessarily about some of these players being bad. Football at this level demands both quality AND availability, especially for a club like Chiefs trying to build towards competing for major honours again.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS!

Micky Jnr reports that Brandon Petersen has picked up an injury and is expected to be sidelined for 4–6 weeks.

It’s a blow, whether a big one or not remains to be seen. For me, Leaner should get the nod against Arrows away.

But there’s another uncomfortable issue here. Chiefs have already had a significant number of injuries this season, and we’re only a few games in. Mako, Shinga, Cross, Frosler, Nkgwesa, Phili, Monyane and now Petersen have all featured in the injury picture at different points.

That naturally raises questions about the club’s injury prevention, rehabilitation and medical processes. I’m not saying every injury is preventable or that the medical team is responsible for them, but the sheer volume this early into the season deserves scrutiny.

Hopefully Petersen’s recovery goes well, and Leaner gets his opportunity. Speedy recovery Uyintshebe

Mfundo Vilakazi is a very talented player.

But he has alot to improve, i always praise him for his close ball control which helps him cut in perfectly.

It's the decision making after going inside, he always wants to take shots 🙄 even when the angle is not there yena he wants to shoot. These are the small details that seperate a quality player and a decent player.

I want to give you an example against Siwelele Mfundo gave a very good pass to Duba unfortunately Duba did not score, after that sequence Vilakazi started taking aimless shots at goal(SELFISH) he cuts inside and shoot without looking at options inside the box not tracking runners.

In the second half vs Siwelele there's a goal Duba scored which was called offside it was not, but what i want to highlight is that Mfundo Vilakazi was taking a shot there it just ended as a tame shot in Duba's legs, imagine if he just played a through ball instead of forcing shots?(I will attach the video of that Duba second offside goal in the comments)

Against Polokwane City he did the same thing of taking shots without an angle.

He needs to look up and actually be creative in his play, also there's nothing wrong with doing a stepover and putting in a cross.

Otherwise if he doesn't fix up Faiz Abrahams will send him straight to the bench.

6 games. 3 wins. 3 draws. 0 losses. 12 scored, 7 conceded.

It’s a pretty good start, and I’m deliberately posting this days later because the frustration has settled and we can actually discuss things properly.

I’ve seen the “Da Cruz is a coward” argument after the Richards Bay and Polokwane draws, and honestly, I don’t see it. We’ve looked more balanced, we’re finding our shape and the players are starting to understand their positions. The argument that we didn’t have a No.10 also confuses me Vilakazi was the 10, with Maboe and Ndlovu as the double 8s behind Ox.

Against Polokwane, we had 443 passes at 85% accuracy, 177 in the opposition half, 15 shots and 1.40 xG. That doesn't exactly scream defensive football. The problem was game management, not a lack of attacking intent. Both draws were frustrating because we had opportunities to win them.

But there’s another uncomfortable truth: when things start going well, some of us quickly forget that this squad still needs improving. Da Cruz’s options from the bench aren’t at the level they need to be in certain areas, and that isn’t necessarily his fault. A depleted squad was never going to be rebuilt in one window.

You can already see where we need more quality and different profiles. So yes, 3 wins, 3 draws and 0 defeats is a positive start, but we can acknowledge that while also saying those two draws were frustrating.

It doesn’t have to be “Da Cruz is doing a great job” or “Da Cruz is a coward.” Football is far more nuanced than that.

We’re improving, but we’re not finished.
