Performing Asana is not the same as enjoyment of Asana. Enjoyment is still ego and when the ego dies enjoyment becomes a natural relaxation into a position that does not require or involve any thinking.
Pranayama is also developed in a similar way as Asana. In the beginning you perform to achieve then you adjust for comfort and finally the breath naturally rests in kumbhaka without regulating the ratio or attempting to control.
Mantra begins with effort and discipline, a regular consistent practice. However once established it becomes your preferred mental activity. Instead of thinking and becoming emotionally involved in your thoughts you prefer to relax in the silent repetition of mantra. Even though the mantra is silent it results in a deepening experience of increasingly subtle layers of mind. Colours merging into swirling descents and ascension. Eventually it ceases the mantra is permanently embedded in your awareness. Unexpectedly it manifests itself into a form that is intensely luminous and effulgent, blissful. This is the source of all knowledge. You are in it and with it always. Your feeling of separation was always an illusion that only existed because you ignored the inner voice.
Within your awareness is the knowledge of the inner voice as if there is another entity communicating to you. It always communicates with a command for example “Stop be silent listen" or " move your thumb”
When the command dimension of awareness is awakened, the experiences of this life and the mental behaviours are seen as relative to situation and beliefs. They do not seem false, it is just that your entire philosophical perspective towards life changes. You are aware of the drama and realise that everything is only a series of impermanent temporary events. Life no longer affects you in any way. You participate without being involved. An experience of a state of mind (yours or someone else) does not necessarily affect another state of mind and therefore it does not affect you.
