MALEMA IS ONE TO WATCH

Wilson Malema, at the tender age of 16, is one of the most promising young amateur fighters currently in South Africa.

Malema started boxing at the age of 6, and first walked into the Hot Box Gym at the age of 14, carrying the tog bag of undefeated IBF Continental Africa super-featherweight champion, Katlego “Blacc_Kat” Khanyisa.

“He was such a quiet kid back then, but he has done nothing but shine. He is now starting to come into his own—and outspoken—as he develops a clearer understanding of what he wants for his future in boxing,” said Colin Nathan.

Last week, he joined the Hot Box Boxing Amateur programme and club, run by former South African welterweight amateur and professional champion Shaun Ness.

“The kid is red hot, and has a brilliant future,” said Ness.

With 47 amateur fights and 41 wins—including titles that include:

• Gold at the Ekurhuleni championships (x5)
• Gold at the Gauteng championships (x5)
• Gold at the South African championships (x2) 🥇

He has been earmarked by NO DOUBT Management as one of the future stars of African boxing.

With his favourite fighter being Terrence Crawford, Malema is confident when he talks about boxing and what he wants for his future.

With Wilson and his father, Ruben, meeting with Nathan in his office recently, Nathan was excited—despite Malema still being too young to turn professional—that he has joined the amateur programme. They all discussed and mapped out the future.

“I’ll be another world champion for you one day, coach—don’t worry,” said the young and confident Malema.

NONTSHINGA AND SUGANOB MAKE WEIGHT

Sivenathi “The Special One” Nontshinga came in on the scales weighing 107.6 lbs, while his opponent, Regie Suganob, came in at 107.9 lbs.

Both fighters looked extremely confident and ready to put on a show for the boxing fans coming out to watch their IBF 108 lb final eliminator for the world title held by Thailand’s Thanongsak Simsri.

Tomorrow is their second-day weigh-in, where the fighters may not weigh more than 118 lbs in the morning on the 10 lb rehydration rule.

IBF President Daryl Peoples is the supervisor for tomorrow night’s main event: Nontshinga vs Suganob 2.

"I'm going to beat him again", yelled Nontshinga to the press as the two of them faced the media after their face-off.

NONTSHINGA AND SUGANOB MEET THE MAYOR AND CONGRESSMAN

The Mayor of Tagbilaran City, Jane Censoria Cajes-Yap, and her husband, Congressman John Geesnell “Baba” Yap, who represents the 1st congressional district of Bohol in the Philippines, met Sivenathi “The Special One” Nontshinga and Regie Suganob today and wished them both good luck ahead of their upcoming final IBF 108lb world title eliminator, which takes place this Saturday night in Bohol.

“Bohol is one of our biggest tourist attractions, and we welcome you here. Please enjoy our hospitality, and if there is anything we can help with, please just ask,” were the words of the congressman.

Both Nontshinga and Suganob sat directly opposite each other before meeting the two, and it was clear that Suganob seemed edgy just being in the same company as Nontshinga. Nontshinga was relaxed and calm.

The event will be promoted by PMI Boxing Promotions.

NONTSHINGA AND SUGANOB COME FACE TO FACE FOR THEIR REMATCH

The last time they were in the ring, Sivenathi “The Special One” Nontshinga won a unanimous points decision on July 2, 2023 over Regie Suganob defending his IBF World jnr flyweight in his first reign as world champion.

Tonight in Loon, Bohol Philippines on a Boxing show for PMI, they went into the ring to face off for their rematch, which is happening this Saturday night in Bohol, Philippines, for the IBF 108 lb final eliminator for the world title.

They stared directly into each other’s eyes, nodding at times and suggesting that the time is close for them to share the ring once again.

“I came here with love and respect, but I am not here for a holiday. I promise to give the boxing fans from Bohol a fight that they will never forget,” said Nontshinga.

Both looked confident, and the ring announcer asked Nontshinga if fighting the rematch in Suganob’s backyard would affect him as hostile territory.
“As I said, I come here with love, but remember: I won both my world titles in Mexico, which was also hostile territory. I feel no pressure, but I can assure you that my hand will be raised on Saturday.”

Their final eliminator will be promoted by PMI Promotions.
