A typical Kung Fu class at our centre in Parkhurst, Johannesburg.
We start with stretching, mobility work and conditioning exercises, followed by sparring drills and form routines drawn from the extensive library of our traditional system.
Every class is designed to give you a complete full-body workout, developing mobility, strength, endurance, coordination and fitness — while building practical martial arts skills along the way.
Train the body. Develop the mind. Build the skill.

Welcome to Our Cape Town Observatory Centre

Take a walk through our Cape Town Observatory centre and see where the training happens.

From our welcoming reception and warm-up area, through to the functional training space with Matt’s bags and a small gym. Our facilities also include change rooms and showers.

Upstairs is our main training area — the heart of the centre, where we practise our traditional barehand and weapon routines.

Come and experience the space, the training and the atmosphere for yourself.

New beginner Kung Fu & T’ai Chi classes running throughout the year.
Everyone is welcome.

Here, Si Sook Chris demonstrates a powerful and effective side kick—an excellent technique for creating distance and helping you get out of a difficult situation while protecting yourself against a possible re-attack.

In our traditional martial arts training, we also place importance on learning how to receive impact safely. This is an essential part of developing confidence, resilience and the ability to remain composed under pressure. However, understanding how to withstand and absorb impact takes time, patience and proper training.

Self-defence is not only about learning how to strike—it is about developing the awareness, skills, confidence and understanding needed to protect yourself when it matters.

Come and experience the training for yourself. Everyone is welcome to learn, develop and grow with us. 🥋

Awesome job, CMAHC team!
Huge thank you to everyone who joined, bringing such fantastic energy.

Despite the chilly weather, we powered through a great lineup:
* Crushed the 5 Basics, deep stretches, and crisp Tan Tui 1-5, with an awesome Broadsword demo and great partner work.
* Highlights: Energetic Lien Bu Chuan and Pan Lang Gwun and pole breaking scene!
* Practical & Flow: Great practical self-defense drills and the grounding Tai Chi 13 postures.

It was a smooth demonstration and a massive success.
Looking forward to our next one 🤩

Looking back at footage from one of our 1999 competitions in the USA. It brings back incredible memories of an unforgettable era. The San Da bouts were intense—true tests of skill, heart, and determination. Those were some proper battles, and memories that will always stay with us.
