This past week we had the privilege to host a strategic workshop session at our offices in Johannesburg involving some key forest planning practitioners in the industry to discuss common Growth Modelling and Inventory issues, specifically with regards to the accuracy of sawtimber and pole product estimations in merchandising simulations. Another main objective was to discuss the possible formation of a Growth Modelling and Planning Working Group, as an informal association at this stage.
The session was very informative and interactive, and the group hit the ground running in the first meeting: general strategy for growth model development and inventory improvements in the industry were discussed, with implementation of several key solutions already in the pipeline.
Watch this space: With a group of quality people with such expertise and drive, and more members undoubtedly to join, big things are bound to happen!
