I used to be in love with yoga - as a mental health system it provided me with philosophy to chew on, to try out in my life, to grow with. As a physical practice it moved things in me and gave me experiences beyond my wildest dreams, and the asanas were fun, getting over my expectations of what I thought would happen, to let the practice unfold despite learnt 'past experience knowing' was joyous. I got to observe present moment wisdom when I allowed it and it was always better than what I thought would happen.
I taught what I learnt.
I know people come to yoga for their own reasons, often not the same as mine but teaching became difficult. I don't know how to share anymore my love of the deeper teachings of yoga when my students don't seem to want what I'm selling.
I feel my words land on the floor. I don't see the same evolution on the mat as I used to, students don't seem to expand their bodies in love and expression, nor surpass their minds to experience something 'out of the ordinary' in themselves.
This is not a judgement of people but more an acknowledgment that what I'm selling only a few are buying.
I am still in love with how I feel when in a yoga asana practice. I still love the presence it sets me up with for the day. I still love the calm, quiet mind and personal growth it quietly generates for me.
I'm wondering where the people are who want to return to living in their bodies with expansion, not mechanical strength. I'm wondering where the people are who want to use this system to expand their minds and hearts. I'm wondering where the people are who want change and are willing to allow yoga to shift safe perspective.
Are you out there?
