What a day. What an atmosphere. What an incredible first SMAA Karate Championships! 🥋🔥

On 12 September 2026, our students stepped onto the tatami and gave us a day we will remember for a very long time.

From watching our little Peewees, just 3-6 years old, bravely step onto the competition floor and give it absolutely everything they had, right through our children’s divisions, Cadets, Juniors and U21 athletes, to our Seniors and Veterans leaving it all on the mat, every division brought something special.

There were nerves. There were victories and disappointments. There were huge smiles, a few tears, some fantastic karate and, most importantly, lessons that will last far beyond the mat. ❤️

Well Done to every athlete who competed! Whether you walked away with a medal or simply the experience of having had the courage to step onto that floor, you achieved something to be proud of.

A massive thank you to our tournament officials. The professionalism, communication and teamwork throughout the day were exceptional. From our referees and judges to our table officials and runners, you kept the competition moving, guided our athletes, managed the floors and gave so much of your own time to make this event possible. Watching everyone work together as one team was something truly special, and this championship simply could not have happened without you. 🙏🏻

🥋 SAME KID. DIFFERENT MINDSET.

When Aedan first walked through our doors, he was a quiet, shy little boy who preferred to stay in the background.

Today, he's a Purple Belt who gives our Black Belts a serious run for their money in class! 💪

What makes us proud isn't just his karate ability.

It's the confidence he's built.
The challenges he's overcome.
And the smile he brings to every class.

Aedan is always ready to learn, always ready for a challenge, and always striving to be better than he was yesterday.

This is why we teach karate.

Not just to develop strong martial artists, but to help young people discover what they're truly capable of.

About a month and a half ago, I gave a simple challenge to each of our students:
“Rise above your OWN expectations.”

Today, if you were standing outside the dojo watching the grading, you would have seen exactly that.

Every single student rose above, and in many cases, far beyond what I had planned for them. The attitudes, enthusiasm, and respect for their art were wonderful to see.

It is an absolute privilege for myself and our instructors to teach such an incredible group of people.

Well done to each and every one of you, and to all the parents and supporters who play such an important role behind the scenes. 👏🥋
