What a day at the 2026 Comrades Marathon Up Run. 👟

Old Eds had 28 members qualify, 27 start, and an incredible 26 members finish with medals. Even more impressive, every runner who started crossed the finish line — a testament to the dedication, preparation and resilience of our athletes.

Unfortunately, Naidene Ford-Hoon missed the 12-hour medal cut-off by 29 minutes but bravely continued on to complete the distance, crossing the finish line despite not securing a medal. That determination and perseverance that embodies the true spirit of Comrades. 👏

Special mentions:
⭐ Two Silver Medals achieved by Noel Mbotwa and Eleni Artemides. Noel became the first male Old Edwardian in over a decade to achieve a Silver Medal, while Eleni became the first female Old Edwardian to achieve a Silver Medal at Comrades.
⭐ Linda Icely placed 2nd female in her age category and was the 1st South African female in her age category, earning her name on the trophy for oldest South African female finisher for a second consecutive year.
⭐ Our 7 novice runners who conquered their first Comrades.
⭐ Dale Shein and Benjamin Diner for completing back-to-back Comrades Marathons.
⭐ Joshua Apfel on his 10th Comrades.
⭐ Mark Lazarus on an extraordinary 30th Comrades Marathon.

Another fantastic month for Old Ed’s Junior Football Club! ⚽💚❤️

Our cup fixtures got off to a brilliant start, with teams across the club representing Old Ed’s with pride and delivering some excellent performances. Meanwhile, our weekly league matches continue to provide valuable opportunities for players to learn, develop and enjoy the game.

A special congratulations to our Red and Green teams, whose outstanding results are a reflection of the hard work, commitment and passion shown by both players and coaches. Their success highlights the strength of our development pathway and the bright future of the club.

We’re also incredibly proud of former Old Ed’s player Tinashe Mupunga, who was recently crowned Player of the Tournament in Spain. Seeing one of our own excel on the international stage is an inspiration to every young player coming through the ranks.

Off the field, congratulations to Ray Keighley, who claimed the title of Old Ed’s Fantasy Premier League Champion after a season of impressive football knowledge and tactical decisions. Your trophy is on its way, Ray! 🏆

Old Eds will be well represented on the international rowing stage this season. 🇿🇦🚣

Congratulations to Paige Badenhorst and Chris Baxter on their selection to represent South Africa at World Cup 3 in Lucerne, Switzerland (26–28 June) and the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames River in the United Kingdom (30 June – 5 July).

We also congratulate Andy Grant on his appointment as South Africa’s National Rowing Coach.

A proud moment for our rowing section and for the club as a whole. We wish Paige, Chris and Andy every success in the months ahead.
