When asked what is missing in the South African development pipeline, Ferreira pinpoints the structural and financial hurdles facing Tennis South Africa (TSA) and young athletes.

“It really stems down to the governing body. We don’t really have any money in tennis; it’s been pushed aside to other sports. There’s not a lot put into development or tournaments. Once kids get to a certain level, they can’t afford to travel. Today they have to go on their own, and it costs a lot of money.”
